Nipper 'Deep' Downey is a fraud .
When Nipper moved to Thailand for a period this guy tried to pass himself off as 'the' Nipper.
He eventually got rumbled at a gig in Bolton and was never seen round nothern parts again , believe he has carried on his career in southern parts though ..

If I get time I'll pass on one of Paul's (Nipper) mixes to Butty to post in the Mix section - Boxing Day 95 or something like that.
I do have a Nipper Old skool set , but rarely it has no scratchin,as it was done as a promotional Old Skool CD.
Paul did actually go to a gig one time and Deep Downey was there passing off.Obviously words were exchanged and thats when the guy changed his name and added the 'Deep Downey'

me only being a young un, never got the chance to see him live.......althou did have the chance when he was at babylon (space/GT's) in huddersfield, but for some strange reason turned down the chance to go.........
true, his scratchin is sublime. not only that his tune selection is mint (on all the tapes i have of him)........quality.
love tape from nye 94 @ bowlers (i got off italian style)........cartouche into SOR-everybody with SOR-sweet sensation scratched over the top.........love it

He stopped playing for awhile - I think "nervous exhaustion" was how it was described. I always assumed it was a drug reralted problem. I saw him tear the roof of a Shelley's - never noticed the long haired fella who was on the after him though...

all time frav dj (other than sasha) always prefered the stuff he played in 90/91 got a class tape from 90 at quadrant park (my best tape ever) but it is in very bad condition every time it gets played it chews in certain places so got to always be on standby when i'm playin it
