Spurred on by this forum I am looking forward to watching my Pleasuredrome (featuring me briefly!), Bowlers (can’t remember if was there or not that night) and Madchester Rave Scene documentary circa 1990 VHS videos tonight. Not seen them for about 10 years! I am not very technologically minded and if I was to ‘burn these’ – think this is the right phrase but not sure! onto a DVD so that I can load them onto the internet, how would I go about doing this? Sorry know this probably sounds naïve. Would there be a shop in Manchester I could take them to that would do it?

I know that Winnit93 has offered to do this but they have not responded to me and I'm a bit wary anyway of sending them off in the post anyway to someone who's only posted 3 times on here!

Thanks :D

I've just done it with a VHS of The Mondays @ The Gmex an its easy enough when you've got the right gear.

Ya gonna need a TV Card for ya PC. Don't need anything flashy, just a basic capture card (got mine for about £20 from PC World). Just make sure it says it will capture TV and Video (dunno if they all do or not).

Then just stick the end of the arial lead from ya Vid (the one that normally goes in ya telly) into the tv card, scan for the vid channel, play the vid an it should start playin on ya PC, ya can then rip it to DVD/VCD etc.

Piece 'o piss

Yes certainly that’s fine! I’ll try and get it sorted. And thanks for the info about the tapes!

I watched the Pleasuredrome Not the Hitman and Her last night and it made me strangely sad. It was the one where Michaela wasn’t there and New Atlantic had a PA – think they only did one there anyway? And Pete Waterman keeps referring to the Pleasuredrome as being in FarnSworth! It does look quite dated with the camera angles and fashions, but was still great, and words flashing up on the screen such as MASHED UP MASHED UP MASHED UP!!! hahaha :S I am there with my two friends dancing away all in a line in unision– I vaguely remember the night. I saw a few faces there – including a couple of ex boyfriends – that I’ve not seen around for years!

I watched half the Bowlers one before having to get some beauty sleep and I was surprised how much more sophisticated it looked than the Pleasuredrome which I didn’t think was the case at the time. Also I’d forgotten that 5,000 people used to go and just how packed it was. I’m going to watch the rest of it tonight and the Rave Documentary – I seem to remember there being some of 808 state on it from the G-Mex but could be wrong. Certainly a trip down memory lane anyway!

That Madchester documentry, if its the right one anyway, has my mate dancing at the end on the titles, he's the one with curly curtains!

If it is that one, I'd love a copy if poss, as my mate isn't with us anymore and it would be great to have a copy to keep.

Well I've just finished watching that Madchester documentary from 1991ish. Is features amongst other things Geese in Royal Exchange, Dry, Hacienda, Afflecks at its prime, 808 State and Happy Mondays at the GMEX, warehouse raves in Blackburn - fantastic!

Nowthen - I know what I am like and will never get around to buying an adapter to copy to disc, although your instructions sounded fairly easy. It does have at the beginning of the credits a very young looking lad in a burgundy top and dark, really curly, longish hair. If you want to PM me your address I'll send it you for copying if you don't mind sending it back to me. :)

I thought some cards had a better quality capture than others mate, or is the quality of a cheap card adequate?:S I read that some of the more expensive ones are a lot better for watching tv anyway, I don't know if that means a better quality recording from a video.

I've got an almost perfect copy of the Pleasuredrome vid and I want to get the best possible transfer quality - unless it means spending a fortune. Whaddya reckon?:)

If you've got a digital video camera there may not be a need for buying the TV card.

If your camera is compatible u can rip stuff off tapes by connecting the vcr to the camera and recording it onto the camera and then upping the images from the camera to the laptop/pc....

My camcorder is a few years old now and also doesn't have digital in:|

Looks like a card then, but which one is the best?:)

Just been reading this thread and could use some help. I've got a couple of VCD format discs I purchased off ebay and the like and I'm trying to get the files on my pc so I can upload and share rather then keep posting discs all over the shop. Anyone know what I need to use to transfer the VCD to my pc so I can then upload.

Also I notice when stuff is uploaded the files expire after a time, wheres the best place to upload stuff so I can share it for the longest time?

have you got nero or some other video capture on your pC ? like windows movie maker ? this usually comes as standard. You will need on back of your Pc an input for video leads, the yellow white and red lead for sound and vision, plug in from your video or dvd player into your pc and should be able to capture and store onto your pc with one of the above programes.
