So, why the hell are tortoises so dear then?

Used to see tortoises all the time when we lived in Greece, whenever we were out playing (you know, like how how kids used to in the olden days) on the hills behind our house. Ace creatures they are. Remember one afternoon my sis picked one up and it pissed all over her top! Hahaha!

thats as international as my childhood tortoise got, lol - poor thing when it died we buried it in the vegetable patch in the garden. Years later my dad was wanting to patio the veg patch over as we didnt grow anything there anymore and we found the 'shell' of the tortoise. He had all been eaten by the worms and the shell was just what was left. Made me feel really sad but hey we got some fab carrots in the patch that year he popped it so it wasnt all bad

what happened to him? was he very old before you had him...? I thought tortoises would practically outlive anyone who bought them as a pet!

mad isnt it, you get a pet you're pretty sure some bugger will have to inherit once you're pushing up daisies :S
surprised theres not an influx of geriatric orphaned tortoises taking over the world :S lol


I also like the tortoise in the opening credits of 'One foot in the grave'
it reminds me of Diedre Barlow (its the neck..)

That surely means you only get 50% value out of them????

dunno why he died hun - i was still at school and we had had him for several years. Just one day he stopped moving i checked and my mum checked and yeah hed popped his cloggs no reason, wasnt age, wasnt illness or neglect (as he was well loved ) he just died

mum said hes in heaven with my gerbil (which the cat ate................)

he had hibernated before and as we had had him for several years we knew when it was hibernation time and we prepared properly his little house for it - but this time........this wasnt hibernation - he was well and truely DEAD.
