Do your tastebuds mature as you get older?
When i was a kid I was a fussy fooker - If it didn't involve sugar i didn't want to know lol
Now - I love broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce etc

Still hate tomatos though - Think it's the mushieness(if that's a word) of them - soggy seeds :$
I love tomato sauce and tomato soup for some reason though lol

I can even manage celery now as long as there is a nice dip involved :D

What couldn't you eat when you were younger but love now?

The only thing I remember not liking when I was a kid, was lumpy mash at primary school on my first day:dummy:

The teachers were so concerned, they went and got my brother and sister to make me eat it:naughty: but it just wasn't as good as me mums cooking;)

Always eaten my greens and anything really for as long as i remember, but maybe the lumps made me think something wasn't right:D

With you on toms Mick... quite like mini cherry tomatos & love sun-dried toms but who in their right mind puts tom on a sarnie ? Makes the bread go soggy :naughty:

I also love broccali & cauliflower now...

I used to hate soft cheese (brie n the like) as a kid but now love it :)

I have always & will always despise egg though :hurl: Food of satan...

just jogged my memory that has :D
at the infants school they went and got my big sister to try and make me eat the jelly with bits of tinned oranges in it :D
Didn't fooking work like. I ended up barricading meself in the dining hall and staging a dirty protest.

it was just all wrong though.... jelly in one bowl, tinned oranges in another. That's god's holy law

Always have my steaks well done ed and speak to anybody who's been on a food course and they will tell you that it needs to be well done to kill the bacteria in raw meat.

Fooking annoys me when I order a steak well done and it comes back slightly bloody:mad: :naughty: :cops:

Saw a programme about parasites in our continental neighbours too and it was much higher in the french, Italians and other vampire nations because of their fondness for raw meats.

Sweetcorn, always thought it looked like sick, or would actually make me sick - it was one of those things that as a kid I'd never tried but "knew" I wouldn't like it.

Tried it a few years ago and thought it was really nice, not keen on it in tuna mayo mix, but on its own with a meal it was a winner.

I'm with you Jim on the steaks front, in fact all meats need to be cooked well done imo - taste much better for it as well as the bacteria reason.

Yep defo on the taste front too:thumbsup:

Bacon should be crispy and well done too, but it rarely is unless you do it yourself:| But like you say I like all my meat cooked properly as it does taste better too.

For me the best steak is like this. Take a nice sirloin out of the fridge about 20 mins before cooking. After 20 mins put the grill on quite a high heat and then massage the steak with a little olive oil, and season both sides well (paying partic attention to the fat). Pop under grill for about 3 mins each side. I like the fat quite crispy and the outer meat browned. After that turn the grill off but leave the steak under for a few mins to rest. When you cut into it its nice and pink throughout, getting slighlty red towards the thicker center- just a little blood there but deffo no jelly texture. I love mine with skinny homemade chips and a pink peppercorn sauce:thumbsup:

As for what i hated when i was a kid, jeez there was loads- most put on me by my parents dislikes. Pasta, mushrooms, most none brit things. Now i will try anything, but sadly still dislike most fish:(

Jonno actually asks for his bacon to have lots of milky white fat on it! I like mine really crispy or not at all.

In addition to steak being rare, i also prefer my beef and lamb pink. Obviously pork/ chicken i like cooked but still juicy.

Yep agree there, and sausages too have to be cooked well as there's nothing worse than cutting into a sausage to see it pink inside still

Totally agree... and the same goes for turkey... cooked through but needs to be juicy...
Nowt worse than overcooked meat or fish... dry, tough and chewy... ick...

Agree with how you cook your steaks as well...

I use one of them griddle pan things you put on the hob. No oil on the meat, just salt and pepper on one side. Put the pan on fierce heat for 5 minutes, then reduce it a bit and whack the steak on seasoned side down. season the other side while it cooks for between 3 & 4 minutes (depending on the thickness), then flip it for the same time again. No poking or prodding or moving it around, just slap it onto the heat and leave it. Straight onto the plate off the heat & give it a few mins to rest before munchage

Prefer ribeye to sirloin myself... fat through the middle of the cut helps it cook, and it has more flavour IMO

You just can't beat a good steak :D

I have tomato issues too, lol :tomato:
I like tinned ones, tomato soups, tomato sauce etc.. etc... but cant stand 'real' tomatoes :|
I do try them every now and again, as you say beacuse your tastebuds tend to change with age so I hoep one day I will grow to like them, but as yet.... nah! :D
I'm the same with yoghurts...WANT to like them, try them again and again but still a no go. I have however 'trained' myself to tolerate bananas nowadays. Go me.

The main thing I recall changing my mind over is peppers. I used to practically heave even smelling them when I was a nipper but in later years I ended up loving them ~ raw, in stir fries, whatever :king:

I also now like things like mustard, and horseradish etc... when theres no way on eart i'd have chose to eat them when I was younger.

Kiss me brown eye
What Mark said.
There should be no bacteria or parasite problems if your butcher is worth his salt.

I'm certain Britain is an ill-er place these days due to this over sanitised society that we seem to have let the media scare us in to.

I don't like fish too much, thats because my mum doesn't really like it, and so we've never really cooked it at home. Tuna is the exception.

I hated olives when I was young, but now I love them :D

My sisters boyfriend is French, and they always have their meat a bit bloody. She came home from visiting him to find she had worms!!! lurvely!! :cops: :hurl: Every time shes been back since shes asked for it 'well done', and apparently even that is still pretty rank :S
