Personally I think a lot is to do with the sellers. Take ebay for example. A lot of the vinyl sold on there is new users who have no real idea of the value, they simply want to get trading and build up the feedback. For example, I picked up an original copy of Emily Heyl -kiss my piano for £1.99 from a user with 2 feedback ratings. I then listed it where it eventually went for £67. Obviously on sites like discogs you find less 'treasures' as the users are more astute. At the end of the day if everyone trading vinyl was 'clued up' then prices would get silly and no-one would have the opportunity to pick up those much loved classics.

Well, that's my humble take on things!

cant agree with you more shrooms (got it right this time) having spent the last 3 years rebuilding a collection from the late eighties that I sold off I'm gutted I could of saved so much cash if I was buying them now, but really its also the fact, that many tunes were import only, limited runs, and came out 20 years ago nearly now, things like Denise Lopez, I can remember this being in stock at Lotus (the main shop in stoke at the time of shelly's) for a couple of hours before it were sold out.

The current dip in viynl value is not being helped by two other things.

1. Alot of peeps are skint with the current climate biting
2. Lots of people now dont even use viynl as a format- lots of astute people have sold there collections over the last few years when the records were still so rare they went for top dollar. Now its a case of people either use mp3 or have bought the rare beasties they always wanted.

Looking at the current buying market £10 gets you 10 legal mp3 straight to your desktop or 1 decent peice of viynl-which takes a week; its not surprising people are finally turning there backs on Viynl. Which is a damm shame.

good and bad

a good time to invest like, better than the 5% @ bank

If you buy them cheap and keep them for 10 years the value will go sky high again..

problem is peeps who went out clubbing in early 90's now have kids / planning kids.... cost a bomb so can't justify £100 on a 12" that you once heard on an obscure mix tape

once them kids fly the nest, we'll all go back to the collecting and money won't be an consideration

same think happened with Northern Soul

Yeah, guess who sold most of his northern collection to fund buying house in the early 9t's! I got 30 quid for Patti and the Emblems in 91, worth around 3- 400 now! Like the who said ,wont get fooled again.

Fooking great if you ask me :D
I'm a buyer and not a seller so if every vinyl was only worth a quid I'd be chuffed phones:
At the end of the day I only sell records to buy more records, so if everything was dirt cheap I could buy whatever I wanted without having to sell to foot the bill.
I don't think the prices will ever drop altogether though as there's way to many greedy bastards out there.

Landaaaaaan town
Does anyone else get really affronted when a class tune goes for buttons.... even if you're not the one selling it ?

Some great bargains to be had out there at the mo but some of the prices I personally think are insulting to the tune itself... :naughty:

Doyaaaahgetmeh ?
I sort of have that philospophy when hunting in the bargain bins, which is why i often have lots of copies of the same tune.
