Following on from the rumours about Technics pulling production of 1200 / 1210 I thought it'd be interested to see what we've got...
Ive still got my 2 x black 1210's, Bought em brand new when i was 17 and they are still going strong 17 years later
I have 2 x 1210's mk2 that i have had for 5 years
Would love the Mk5g's though, they are PIMP daddy
2 x Stanton ST-150's.
.
The Stanton's are better decks to be honest. The only downside for me is that they don't have a separate earth cable (it's built in or something), and there is a slight "earth" buzz when you listen to the deck with no record at high volumes. Although you can actually wire in a separate earth I've just never got round to it, or finding our how for that matter. Apart from that they can go from +/- 10%, 25% and 50%, they have a reverse faeture, and if you set it to be a line out instead of phono you can then do a key lock where the pitch changes (or tempo, never remember which) but the key stays the same - all the way to +/- 50%, all in real time as you play vinyl. You can also set the stop and start to whatever you want - slow or quick - no idea why you would want a slow start mind (the start on max is actually quicker than the 1210 as it's got more torque).
I'd deffo get the straight arm version (the STRT-150 or something) next time though, for better groove hugging.
I don't hold with the opinion that you won't be able to play out because you won't be used to Technics either - IMO if you can beat match / scratch on 1210's then you can do the same on ST-150's, and vice versa.
