From memory, the Hac was open more than just Saturday night - when it first started it was open every night of the week (especially during the early days).

Friday was Shine, Wednesday was Student Night and Flesh was evey month on a Thursday (for a while) and i know it was open other times as i went....but can't remember all of them.

Have a look here john mccready | working on a building of love

This tape and others was bought from Graeme's boot in the carpark opposite Whitworth Street !!

Graemes boot opposite Whitworth St...That I would have liked to have seen..Did you buy it there yourself?

Never bought any tapes myself, too busy getting blarted (but I really wish I had bought em:() . I thought they sold them at the DJ booth or the cloakroom??

Tuesdays (& Mondays) were usually band nights iirc, with Dave Booth DJing, Wednesdays were Hot (88) & Void (89/90), Thursdays Indie (Haslam) Fridays was Nude with Pickering & Park and Sats was Wide with Arrojo & Garnier. Shine started 91 and Flesh was the gay night, monthly on Wednesdays after it reopened bit later 92ish..

That Macready article is pretty old, for once Id like to see an alternative to glowing Hacienda tributes, a piece giving credit to other clubs in the North West around that time such as The Thunderdome, Konspiracy, Legends, the Blackpool clubs, the Blackburn Raves, The State, The Quad etc etc

Thanks for the updates on which night were what :)

Let me get the full story from the person who owns the tapes as they are borrowed and not mine. I used to get my tapes from Afflecks Palace and Eastern Bloc myself.

I'm sure the person who owns the tapes can give us a nice story from back in the day.....let me ask.

I always bought my tapes off him early on in the night fom the GP in the DJ booth. He always took an age to open the door, never seemed to be the happiest of chaps if i remember rightly.

Some background for those interested - written by the owner of the tapes and a regular of the Hacienda.

"Well there was a group of about 20 of us who used to go to the Hacienda, only about 4 of us used go every Saturday without fail, but you know what it was like, you got there and new loads of regulars who went every week. Me and my mate Steve used to be there between 9-10 every Saturday, sit on the stage by the huge speaker directly in front of the DJ box and watch it fill up whilst Eric (a solicitor I was told?) who was the only one dancing this early did some of the maddest (but superb) dancing you were ever likely to see.

We would all be warming up as Tom Wainright did the warm up for Graeme, and by the time Graeme came on at about 11-11.30 I would always be on a proper mad one dancing at the front of the stage. Although we had got our hands on various tapes from people we knew, the first tape we actually bought directly off Graeme was the 10.07.91. Someone told us he sold them out of his DJ booth, so we just went up and banged (loudly) on the door, Graeme opened it up and looked a little blankly at us until my mate blurted out “Got any tapes Graeme?”, Graeme reached over to his shelf pulled a tape off it and asked us for a tenner which we duly handed over and ran off like a couple of kids with a new toy. And the rest is history…

It took me a while to get one of my mates to let me tape all his old tapes, it was always a bit of a thing that he had loads of old tapes and although he was happy for us all to listen to them he would never let us tape them. Anyway one night after the Hacienda there was just the two of us back at my house listening to the new tape of the night, both off our faces still and I convinced him that it was a good idea to let me drive him back to his parents house at 4.00am, get his graphic equalizer and all his tapes so I could tape them, so that’s what we did. We were still taping at 3.00pm the next afternoon but he wasn’t going anywhere until I got all those tapes taped.

A lad I vaguely knew got stabbed in the Hacienda back in 1991 and I am told that Graeme (who he knew) brought one of the tapes “Cork” 16.05.91 into the hospital for him during a visit.

As far as the handwriting on the tapes, some are Graeme some are mine."

A nice little episode from the past :)

Who Knows the real date

Brady - we both have the same mix - but i cannot ascertain the correct date..

10 minute sample uploaded to see which one sounds best.

SendSpace | The Best Free File Sharing Service:

if mine is better i will upload the whole mix.

BTW i use 2 sound cards - Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS and a Marian: Marc 2 Pro

The Marc 2 product is far superior....maybe i should start a new thread on sound cards (if i can be arsed)...

The Hac & Glowing Tributes

Appreciate what you are saying Konspiracy - but if it wasn't for the Hac many of those nights you mention would not have taken off in the way they did - the Hac was the catalyst, the inspiration, sometimes the initial gathering for the early part of the night before moving on to the blackburn events etc out of town.
Sorry but I can never hear enough tributes/stories and writings of recognition for what the Hacienda meant and achieved.
Also it was much more than 88 and all that - it had an incredible history pre 88 which many house purists tend to forget.
Peace, love and respect

Sounds good.... have you got any that have not been up'd before
Most I got have come from here. If there are any you're missing that need re-upping then let me know. :p

Actually I have got a Pete Heller @ Hacienda - September 92 which I'm not sure has been upped.
