Saturday night Peter..Peters Kays new effort, Not a terrible read i suppose, its amazing what he did before he came on our screens but the jokes are same old same old..

A History of hip hop for people into hip hop and what happened and 'why' things happened within the *industry, a bit of real old history going down as well inbetween and some 'stories about the past present n future', also some great analysis of hip hop/rappers that are about now. A lot of spiritual thoughts and emotions, this is a great book you should read it

The Strange Last Voyage of Donald Crowhurst Sailor's Classics: Amazon.co.uk: Nicholas Tomalin, Ron Hall, Jonathan Raban: Books
True story about a mad/genius inventor driven to near bankruptcy who decides his best way out of trouble is to enter a single-handed round the world yacht race. He designs & builds his own "revolutionary" craft & sets off, with all appearing to go swimmingly, until one day his radio transmissions just stop.
It later turns out he'd actually barely got started and had been faking his positions, log entries & radio transmissions for weeks. He was planning on just fucking lying about the whole thing, pretending he'd gone round the world quicker than anyone else & claiming first prize. This all came to light when they found his boat drifting in the Atlantic with nobody on board. His log books (real and fake) were on board though, and the entries at the end show that he pretty much just went completely mental and topped himsen instead.
Crazy mad inventor, proper British eccentricity, balls of pure granite, a scam of magnificent audacity, hopeless failure, total mental breakdown, mysterious unexplained death. What more could you want from a book than that?

which is basically the dissection of a child murder case in 1860. As well as covering the case, the main suspects and the leading detectives it gives good background into Victorian society especially the press. Not my usual cup of tea but a Christmas present which for its gruesome detail and intrigue was quite entertaining.. 7.5/10

I didnt think it was as good as the plaudits made out but then again is it ever? The author had abviously done his research and you got a good grasp of what was going on and the politics involved. The et-down for me though was the dialogue and the two stories running concurrently - neither worked for me. 3.5/5.

Read this whilst on my hols last week Superstar DJs Here We Go!: The Rise and Fall of the Superstar DJ: Amazon.co.uk: Dom Phillips: Books
Really enjoyed it, a nice easy read. Basically it showed how the rise of the superclub and the superstar DJ's riuned the scene. Lots of stories about promoters and djs getting wasted and how things went a bit pear shaped for most.

Just finished: Fierce Dancing: Adventures in the Underground: Amazon.co.uk: C.J. Stone: Books which basically chronicles the origins of the free frestival and its contrbution to rave culture. A good read.
Just finished Jack Dee's autobiography. Starts a little slow and had me thinking he sounded a bit of a twat but.. it picks up in the second half, especially once he enters the working world. Good for anyone needing abit of optimism..

im nearly at the end of this now In the Shadow of Papillon: Seven Years of Hell in Venezuela's Prison System: Amazon.co.uk: Frank Kane, John Tilsley: Books which has been a very good read and alot of it is in the same prison in margarita thats in "journey to hell" and makes you realise the stuff that goes on in the 1st book is bang on, like the daily exchange of bullets from the roofs of pavillion 1&2 with 3&4 both sides of the prison are at total war with each other, and mount mass attacks on each other leaving dozens dead each time, how the hell inmates get guns hand grenades and dynamite inside is beyond belief :| gripping stuff, its so harsh what some of these guys have been through just for a bit of narcotics, the laws the law and if you cant do the time dont do the crime people say, and im one for saying we dont punish people properly in this country, but i gotta feel sorry for these poor people, in some of the prisons they dont even provide food or a cell, gotta sleep on the bare concrete thats covered in sh*t in the corridor and rely on friends getting food in to you. im loving these sort of books that much, ive just had this batch delivered, and from trawling through the reviews, i cant wait to get stuck into them.

Nice one for the heads up Leaky.... added a couple of those to my wish list. Interested in the escape from the Bangkok Hilton one but the reviews werent too good. What do you think?
i enjoyed it but it was nice to read 1 where someone escapes for a change lol. the 1st 3 on the list are much better though, i got them because of amazon reviews which are normally spot on.
