Are there many big name dj's who still use that old record thing wouldnt of thought so

Hardy / Levan / Mancuso / Baker / Knuckles / Frankie Bones
For me it's all about creativity & being different
What a piss poor list generally. I would agree totally with the suggestions by Shooms and others however I would suggest that the Chicago Boys of early 80's specifically the WBMX Hot Mix 5 who changed the scene completely with their beat mixing, sampling and scratching.
Farley Funkin Keith
Scott "Smokin" Silz
Ralphie Rosario
Kenny "Jammin" Jason
Mickey "Mixin" Oliver
Alternative picture which is a bit fairer as it also includes Steve Silk Hurley and Frank "Hollywood" Rodriguez who were as good as BMX founders.
In regards to people like Derick May etc, simply amazing producers however I understand that he did not like dj'ing too much and therefore did not put all his effort into it.

vinyls dead. It's like an old girlfriend, no matter how much you wish it, shes moved on and shes not coming back
Sorry but the whole scene is critically ill, its lost its purpose for being, passion and heart.

I would make the comparison with the scene being like your dream girlfriend from years ago, slowly becoming fat, greedy and old with lots people using her for their own benefit. She's now tired, worn out and well past it although young kids still think she can teach them a thing or two so they jump on only to be disappointed. Shes had a bit of surgery (technology ie Cd's mp3's etc) to try and spruce things up but still shes tired and worn out.
Thing is sad gits like me still look back at her, still in love with what was but hating what it has now become.
Admit it everybody dj'ing and technology do not mix. A DJ is a DISC Jockey and therefore needs vinyl.

bit difficult for me this thread... at the height of my clubbing days it was about resident djs and not just restricted to 2 hour sets.... someone who you grew with and worked the crowd not just arriving and disappearing to do the next club...
