God is a DJ (but he only warms up for Sasha)
God is a DJ (but he only warms up for Sasha)
This book is my portrayal of the DJing career of Alexander Coe, more commonly known as Sasha. It charts his rise from a regular at the infamous Hacienda nightclub in Manchester to becoming the renowned and established figurehead for dance music throughout the world over the last 20 years. During his meteoric rise to fame and fortune, I have established a long-standing friendship with him that has enabled me to recount in detail his career highs and seldom lows. It also records the impact that dance music, in particular Sasha’s own innovative style, had on the UK’s clubland, from it’s humble underground beginnings in the very early nineties to today’s pop chart notoriety. For those too young to have been present at the beginning, it is a sample of what they’ve missed so far and for those lucky enough to have been there at the time then it will prove to be a very positive reflection of what is now etched in dance music history. I first came across Bren in about 1989 in a club called ‘Legends’ which was underneath Warrington rugby league ground. It was a tiny sweatbox of club with a low ceiling, smoke machine and 80’s glitz décor. It was one of mine and many others first hunting ground for dance music clubs however we all knew Brendan was a veteran of the warehouse raves in Blackburn and most other Northern clubs now playing our favoured big piano anthems to which we could blow our whistles to!
