Not sure of your cut offs Jonathan!

Kebekelektrik - Magic Fly - YouTube
Persia - Inch By Inch - 1979 - YouTube
REMIX BY MACH "ON AND ON" Remix Records - YouTube
Powerline - Double Journey _Extended Version_ Prelude Records 1981.mpg - YouTube
GINO SOCCIO REMEMBER REMIX - YouTube
Carly Simon - Why - YouTube
Raga Bhairav - 1982 - SYNTHESIZING: TEN RAGAS TO A DISCO BEAT - Charanjit Singh - YouTube

And the first ever house/techno/electro record in my eyes,
The Coachouse Rhythm Section Time Warp.wmv - YouTube

That little collection does not include 100's of electro releases pre 83. I also would suggest that most styles of music lost their way circa 1994 with the introduction of big money. A few decent tracks did get released after 94 however my focus then became music from years gone by.

A few years stick out for me- i am a massive fan of the 80's full stop

However 94 was a good year for me (90, 91, 92, 93 are still superior in terms of output however) as its when i really feel in love with dance music and got my decks etc

Also though - 98, 99, 00, 01, 02 were incredible as i loved all the trance out there at that time and Ibiza was my yearly destination spot- so many memories

next year for me. i love finding new music. the quality is there if ya can be arsed looking for it. im liking a lot of dubstep n dnb atm n cant wait to see where it goes next. looking back, probably 1990-91. i was 13-14 so it may be rose tinted specs n that, but there was cool music everywhere ya looked be it dane, indie, or even pop music.

1971 mofo's. I will play my 7" white label copy of 'chirpy chirpy cheap cheap' (courtesy of monsieur leaky) come the next beat herder:p :D

2 years have made a massive difference to my life though and those are 1984 when hip hop/electro (thanks largely to breakdance and beat street) broke big time and got us all practicing our dance moves every break time at school and after school.

1991 is the other year that I got engulfed in a new dance culture that had taken over Britain.

Now though, I couldn't pick a favourite year for music as I have very eclectic tastes that takes in so many different genres in so many different decades.

I completely agree with this for nearly everything except music. Today’s music is utter SHITE and I would have cut my ears off years ago if it wasn’t for the ability to look back and appreciate the genius of true producers and pioneers not computer programmers!!

ps this was written whilst recording Lime Angel Eyes Dub thanks to Mart (Mister DJ) and his current e-bay auction.

That's just crazy talk to dismiss a whole era of music !

There is a lot more rubbish made nowadays granted but there is still a hell of a lot of great new music being made with new technology and old alike - you aren't looking hard enough to find it otherwise you'd be listening to it and not posting incorrect information ;)

To answer the OP - some of the best years for dance music...

1983, 1988, 1990, 1995, 2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2011 and beyond - music is getting better imo

Im not having a go at today music its just not for me. I remember certain tracks stopping everybody dead as they were truly groundbreaking. I was going out from 89 to 94 ish with retro nights thereafter.

How many tracks of today realy cause excitement or people think ive just got to have that? I can recall many nights where tracks simply moved me to the point where I had to have them, I realy cant say that of todays tracks.

I also think technology has killed much of the excitement, today you can make any noise, years ago producers were much more limited and found new sounds from old equipment, Earl Smith and Pierre being the best example.

Last track that I had to buy....The Orb, Danny Tanaglia Downtempo Mix 1998!!....after hearing it at Heaven with Danny Tanaglia playing.

Best year.

Defo 91, easily takin the gold (for me the Usain Bolt of dance music years) , 90 gets the silver and 92 a little way behind but still taking the bronze.

I like all of the albums RUSH have made. Some of them stack up quite well against any album ever made IMO.

But it would seem that I'm pretty much alone with my love of RUSH.
If you would please vote for your favorite RUSH studio album if you have one.
And or post all things RUSH orientated.
Or even just to complain about Geddy Lee's voice. Which I actually like.

Sometime 1977-78 would do me to - saw some footage on YouTube recently from inside Studio 54, which sounds awesome if you turn up the volume on a home stereo system. Very similar thumping bass as you would get inside a house place back in the day, except its awesome disco tuneage.

1990 was the year for me house-wise, though really from 84' until first half on 92' was a glorious period
