Just testing general opinion please, I am thinking of getting an ipad 64gb 1st generation from something like fleabay. I have got 2x 30hr flights to cope with and want something to kill the boredom! Im not wanting to spend a huge amount and reason for the 64gb is so I can lump a few mixes on there and leave the ipod at home which has also got a faulty screen now.

Im not into apple things and this would generally go against my morals and I realy have little idea on i tunes etc so tend to stay well clear.

I would want some games including nintendo Mario so expect the ipad would have to be Jailbroken (what ever that is!!). Can the ipad read from usb sticks or would I have to save mixes or films to the ipad memory? (only ask as I have 2 64gb memory sticks laying around and would be good to use them) How easy to connect a Nikon D300 camera to view pictures?

Thanks for your advice, always welcome. Ive had bit of a bad time with gadgets lately, midi controllers etc which did not live up to expectations so wanting to get this right.

My kid has one and No you cant use a USB stick with it.

EVERYTHING goes through Itunes.

You can put movies etc on it but they need to be converted to .mp4 or else in a nice way it says "Fuck off I cant play this"

MP3's work fine but aslong as you add them via Itunes.

I updated my sons to IOS5 and I had to re-install everything that was on the device after doing so

Gotta watch with jailbreaking aswell sometimes on a jailbroken device if your battery dies your screwed have to re-jailbreak it. No use at all if travelling especially without a Laptop.

In Apples defence I will say that its quite good for mind numbing time passing and certainly if Itunes was ditched it would be sooooo much better.

Got my youngest one A Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for Christmas and it pure pisses all over the Ipad, no Itunes and can drag and drop from laptop, or do wirelessly via an app called Samsung Kies Air. You can download all the Paid apps from your local torrent site. You can simply email yourself the .apk file (format it comes in) click it from in the email and it installs onto the device :)

This ^^^

My number one gripe with Apple is iTunes, it's fucking shite  Even putting some tunes on my iPhone is a chore, I have to make sure all the tags etc etc are correct or it all goes to cock.

Thanks for the feedback. Have seen usb adaptors for apple connection point just wondered if the usb would be read as a hd?

Itunes is shite I agree however I do have it set up for 60gb ipod so hopefully should not be too much of a task to use on ipad. Now thinkig as not going for jailbroken as im not technical enough to deal with any issues.

iTunes isn't Apple's finest achievement, but it does work really well in an apple environment if you have other bits of apple kit. For Windows users though it's an achillies heel. There's good reason why apple kit dominates the top spot of pretty much any neutral review site though and that is evident to anyone that uses the kit, but there'll always be people that don't see value in something that costs so much even if it can make their life a whole lot easier - which for the majority of none techy/geeky people, that holds true.

You don't have to use itunes to put on music or video on it and you don't have to jailbreak it. I haven't used it put any music or video on mine for months. Instead I use the Free Music app and just download stuff onto it in seconds from anywhere on the net. Video too can be dragged and dropped, again without jailbreaking it.

I didn't see a market for ipads when they were first released, but having used one for months and seen how they revolutionised mobile music making, production and entertainment, I reckon they're a brilliant piece of kit:cool:

im now buying one purelly for the music making apps like reason...there so cheap and for what you get is well worth it, if you was to buy the software for a pc itll cost in the hundreds, im not one for watching films on a small screen so pointless me putting them on there, and i have iphone with all my music on there, and i use itunes but ive never brought a tune of there i get them elseware or download mixes of here and put them on itunes to my phone, buy one you cant go wrong as there by far the best option out there..my opinion anyway..:)

Posting using it now and to be fair it is pretty amazing. I got an iPod 1 (what's the point in me having a 2) 64gb which is mint boxed etc for £300. Also has sim free 3G which can use oz sim too.

Not sure about music or dj potential but I know it will help kill the hours on flights to oz.
