vinyl will never go out of fashion cause nothing sounds as good in a club then a vinyl the only down side is like my mate all his tunes are still what he bought in 1990 and upwards and you see them to start to lose the sound quality

The mp3 code is a fabulous idea!!!! It could be the saving grace for vinyl :)

I like a mixture of mp3 (for stuff I want, but don't wanna spend the cash on for vinyl format) and vinyl (for stuff I do, and that I want to 'touch' for a long time). I have been buying none-dance music on vinyl recently too.

I think when there is a heavy shift towards one thing (in this case the mp3 et al) there is always a backlash. people always want a tonic to what they have…and what's more of a tonic in this case than vinyl??

What I always have in my mind, is being a kid, and going through my parents vinyl FOR HOURS…stuff they'd had since before I was born. I wonder how many of my MP3s will last that long?!

id like to know more info about this such as does this relate to just new or second hand items? if this relates to second hand also then it makes sense as prices are way down hence driving demand up. If this is for new records then i am confused as i was under the impression many producers were steering away from vinyl and those that still do produce on vinyl are pressing 300-500 at a time?!?!?!

great thread tho!

The trouble is, much of the new vinyl is expensive. 7'' soul records tend to cost about £6, limited edition 12'' vinyl can cost £10, £20 or whatever.

It's probably cheap compared to the imports we all bought when record shops were crammed (relative to our wages back then), but seems dear these days:|

One of the possible reasons mentioned in that article for the increase in vinyl sales, is one the major appeals vinyl has for me (apart from sound reproduction) which is the tangible nature of a record, which is obviously lost with digital media. Ed

This is exactly what I think too. It applies to me defs. Especially when companies like itunes are only really 'renting' you the MP3 anyway…you spend money on something you don't even own - let alone touch, smell, get to know visually. xxx
