Pink makes the boys wink....
I know we've been through the site improvement discussion and I have mentioned this before to the bigman.. Is there any way the radio could play as soon as you log onto the site? Other internet stations do it? Is it a hard thing to do? Seems a shame do you not think? Could have been 130 people listening. That can only be a good thing

over there
I think its a good idea but butty isnt keen if people are logging in at work etc but I dont think its a prob. Easy enough to turn off if you dont wanna listen and theres more people browse out of work than in I think :)

The Dj's who play on here week in week out deserve it mate... Again, such a waste! It's so easy to hit the mute/pause button.

Why do we only have 1 reply to this thread. Come on man!

I think it is a great idea mate.

Surely it will encourage more DJ's to do more live sets and prob do longer ones as well if they have got 130 or so listeners instead of 8-22, which is what it is at mo. Then i think more live sets will encourage more listeners, which will encourge more DJ's to do more live sets....... and so on.

Would it be possible to trial it for only when a live set is on? Cos this is mainly evenings and weekends when most people are at home and not in work.

This is a tuff un

On one hand I say no, people should have the choice if they wanna listen or not

The other I say yes, some people don't tune in cos they don't know who's playing what. If it automatically plays then the listener may just stay tuned in.

I'll go yes to try it out. Can't hurt, the only thing that would get me would be me forgetting to turn it off when I'm streaming, lol

How's about this for an idea, instead of it coming on automatically, how about a screen prompt giving you the choice to launch the radio or not as soon as you log in? I'm easy either way how its done (auto or prompted) its a good idea and there's nothing to lose by doing so. It would increase listening volumes though surely .

I agree with anything thats gonna get the listening figures up. It's pretty tough sometimes when you are playing a set and realise theres 7 or 8 people. I got really excited one week when I had 30 something but even that doesn't sound too high.
I'm commited to playing on OSA no matter what the listening figures are but I think we need to look at any ways to increase the listening numbers.

Another thing I think would be worth doing is making it more obvious on the home page as to who is playing and when and what styles they will be playing. You know make a big fuss about it. We've got some really good DJ's on here that play some great music but the promotion of what they do is hidden away in the forums.

My personal preference is not to have music on automatically. Sorry guys! I'd prefer an opt in rather than an opt out too, so you configure the settings so it plays automatically (if that's what you want) rather than have to switch it off if you aren't in the mood.

I just find that most sites piss me right off if music starts playing automatically when i'm listening to something else

I'll go along with what superdan wrote as the overwhelming majority seem to want a trial run, but I honestly don't see anything wrong with just clicking a single link which tunes you in. Maybe butty can move the radio to another area of the forum where the radio plays automatically and has a bigger shoutbox and whatnot:S

This... drives me fucking mad when a site automatically plays music. Especially if you're at work or somewhere else having a quick peek.

yep its a tough one, go for it as a trial and make an easy setting option for on or off, like Jim said it bugs me too when i go onto a site and it starts playing music straight at me, even more so if it takes a bit to find out just where its coming from and how to turn it off.

if we are going for this, i would suggest that it must have something like an obvious pop up in the middle of the screen that comes on as soon as the music kicks in, giving an option to
switch off radio :naughty: or keep on rocking phones:

then everyone is happy :D

this is not an easy choice for me, like some others i have found it quite annoying on sites that play music by default as soon as the page loads, so part of me thinks it's not a great idea. on the other hand tho i also think that there's no harm in giving the idea a go on a trial basis, as long as there's an easy way to turn it off if ur listening to sommat else.

in short i'm voting yes, if it helps to promote the radio and increase listener numbers then it can't be a bad thing. worth a try deffo
