the soundcloud issue is that for the first 30 seconds the start of the mix is analysed against any known tracks in a copyright database it uses. the way to get round it use some mad sounds, dialogue, the tune in reverse mode, your own music, your own edit, etc.

You just have to put 10 seconds of silence in the beginning.

ok I'm now up on soundcloud, I added you djperkins I'm now one of your followers dear sir you are my master:fekked:. So what do I have to do now? Didn't I have to add some dongle thingy to the soundcloud site connecting it to osa.

btw your "Dave Perkins...OSA 30-3-13 underground, progressive house vibes" is fookin quality, That's exactly the type of stuff I'm into. I love old skool progressive house, do you have a tracklist for that mix?

Also I noticed when I compared the sound levels of my mix compared to yours (djperkins), yours is much louder. Do you have any tips on been able to reach that amount of gain? All the sound levels on my mix according to the meter is right up to in the red, I don't understand how yours is louder.

I can't remember half of what is on that mix if I'm honest, I never write stuff down and stick it back in the shelf when I've played. I record my mixes onto the laptop and take the signal from the Line In on the soundcard not the stereo mix. I use wavepad and record as a wav. file. The software has a Normalize function or you can go louder/quieter with volume adjust function...I seem to record a bit too loud and often get clicks and pops from clipping. I also choose a 96,000khz studio quality option on my sound card. I have had plenty of stuff pulled from Soundcloud, none of it was mixed, just single tracks that I uploaded for others to download, I didn't get into any trouble...just received an email informing me that there may be a copyright issue with one or more of my uploads.

Thanks.

I'll check out that wavepad program. Shame you can't remamber your tl it's full of stonkin tunes. On getting stuff from soundcloud pulled I took onboard your advice and added ten seconds of silence.

Could I just ask again, now that I'm on souncloud don't I have to attach something from the osa website to it to eventually upload my mixes here after I get to 50 posts. I don't want to join facebook you see, I know I'm a silly fooker!

^^^^^^that was just cos it took such a long time to process and I was impatient really, it's there now...I have had stuff denied, pulled and emails telling me about it, couldn't give a fk...you wont get into any strife..once I repeatedly tried to upload a LKJ album 5 times...changed from mp3/wav/changed the names/swapped tracks around...lol..didn't work, he must really need the cash, rocked it all up I reckon...it has always been single tracks as opposed to mixed tracks that have been pulled, you would e hard pushed to find a track with some of my mixes that ramble on for ever or have severe eq cuts. Best to have an account everywhere and go viral \0/

c'mon DT, keep going, we can get you to 50 posts just in this thread alone.

Many thanks dear sir, but I've kind of ran out of things to say on this current topic, I know because this is part of the music forum I shall ask a music related question.

What other styles of music do you guys like other than dance music? What's your favourite genres, you favourite bands?

I like all kinds of shit myself from the 60's onwards, music is my life, without it I think I'd blow my brains out.

i don't know who said it but it went something like...

"music makes a bad day better and a good day even better."

everything except opera is on my radar. my desert island discs record box wouldn't even contain dance music. a quick trip to the 2nd hand shop yesterday ended with me walking out with all this for £2.50

My musical tastes are pretty much everything leading up to rave/dance..and that's where it stops...I dig some late 90's beats stuff and a few bits and pieces from the naughties..but in general everything I dig is old like me...brit pop and all that guitar re-hash crud makes me want to puke acidic turds...so does most pop music from the 80's ans 90's...saying that tho...a good tune is always a good tune...99% gotta make you wanna move with me.

A few of my fav bands, as you can tell I'm a bit of a metal head who likes lots of other stuff like dance music for example

AC/DC
All About Eve
Black Sabbath
Dead Kennedys
Deep Purple
Depeche Mode
Megadeth
The Misfits
The Mission
Metallica
Nirvana
Opeth
Porcupine Tree
Radiohead
Simon & Garfunkel
Simple Minds
Slayer
The Sisters of Mercy
The Smiths
Vangelis
Whitesnake

My fav Old skool dj's in order of preference (essentially ark resident dj's other than sasha, johhny pigweed and the oakenfarter)

Dj Vertigo (numero uno!!)
Sasha
Rob Tissera
Gary Norman
John Digweed
Paul Oakenfold
Martin Gee

My favourite dj's from 1994 onwards, all in order of brilliance

Sasha
John Digweed
Sasha and Digweed
Paul Oakenfold (around 94 - 98 when trance was good, nowadays he plays shite)
Desyn Masiello
James Holden

My fav dj overall - Sasha

I'm massivley into ac/dc ivan, who do you prefer bon scott or Brian Johnson?

60's bands I like, the doors, the beatles, jimmy hendrix, jefferson airplane, the beach boys and the zombies, I could go on, I'm sensing djperkins is about to shoot himself at this point :p

It's a shame you don't like pop from the 80's djperkins. I love it myself, particualy synth pop of the early 80's.

I despise pop music nowadays.

The 80's and 90's was full of artists that were desperately trying to follow up their one hit wonder... and they crammed it down our necks without mercy...but a lot of earlier stuff was cool The Police were epic, the biggest band on the planet for me..some synth bands were right on the money as well, Depeche Mode ...though I absolutey despise Indie...Smiths...waving flowers around..not me mate..lol..fk that, there may well be some real musical happenings going on with it...but on my estate you would just get filled in everyday, so I never got into that scene..lol

Brain Johnson deffo...and I like a lot of 60's and 70's scene'...I was into the First Mod revival scene after punk died a death which invited bands like The Jam andopened my ears to bands like The Who, Floyd and a whole host of Northern Soul acts...which is where my passion for dance music comes from...I always used to jump around, pogo, wreckin whatever...but Northern Soul brought out the girl in me..hahaha...Disco Stuuuuuuuuu.

fave metal band of all time is not on your list Thin Lizzy
fave dj's would be Seaman, Ralphy, Sasha, Oz, Diggers, Me

I guess I was just into stuff that pushed the boundries , had to be new and cutting edge to hook me in when I were young...or it could propperly fk off..hahaha...just a typical estate rat me guys, my oppinion is prob not even worth typing out...untill It all came together with "E"...and then sumat happened in my head, everything was cool and everything fit into place, the wealth of crap had morphed into the best sound ever, like it was just waiting to happen for me alone...the old stale sounds took on a fresh new meaning and the world of electronica was unveiled right before my blinkered, crusty mince pies...and I'm still discovering stuff that turns me on now.

I was never that big on thin lizzy, but I think phil lynott has an interesting story. For me bon scott ac/dc is the era I like the best, but the album back in black is pure class.

Who is dj Ralphy is that ralph lawson from back to basics? Ali cooke was a great and eceltic dj but sadly passed on from basics. I love disco, the only northern soul tune I know and like is gloria jones"Tainted love"I only descovered it because of soft cell, I actually think I prefer the jones version, it's really catchy. The pogo is brilliant my mate showed it to me when I was a young un, mad as fook!

I like the fact you chose sasha and digweed you must like progressive house, that's my favourite dance music genre, that mix of yours on soundcloud had quite a bit of prog in it that's why I liked it. I forgot to put dave seaman, I like him and dj noggy his "Noggy @ Legends, Warrington Feb/March 92" is an amazing mix . I find it interesting in your dj choices you chosen yourself, which makes 100% sense to me.

I'll be honest my favourite dj is me, because my mixes are full of tunes which are all my favourites. To be honest I'm not really a dj, I can't beatmatch for toffee. My mate had some technics 1200 decks I tried just couldn't beatmatch. Now because of ableton I can beatmatch, because I'm a musician (guitar player) I have an ear for mixing in key.

As I say I'm not a dj so here's a question when your playing in a club and you feel your music isn't going down too well (a very rare occurence ;p), will you play something that is popular, even though you don't personally like it? What I'm saying playing a club I imagine would be different than a studio mix, maybe in a club you have to read the crowd?
