No way, this is all news to me lol

I wouldn't mind but thats actually one i ripped myself from a tape i brought years ago.
Is OSA affected in the same way? or is it different rules apply?

Another question is can someone actually copyright what is essentially a bootleg recording?
as i very much doubt a single artist ever got paid off the back of these old tapes

yup, when you upload a mix to youtube their system identifies tracks in the mix & adds a copyright claim for them, usually the well known tracks on the mix. any revenue from the adverts goes to the copyright holders.

under the YT video is shows a list of the first 10 copyright claims ( comes in handy when looking for ID's )

copyright claims dont affect your account, but sometimes they upgrade their claim & block the track (mute it) and give you a copyright strike which lasts 90 days

if you get 3 active copyright strikes at the same time they close your account, so its better not to upload well known tunes, keep to obscure tunes

The individual tracks would be copyrighted but I highly doubt a mix could be copyrighted especially a bootleg mix. Parky probably has no right to strike down these mixes unless some of the tunes are his productions but I'm not about to argue the toss in court

I was looking at that a while back when his sets were being pulled from peoples accounts, is he pulling it because of the copy rights or is he doing it to drive people to his account, but he dont have the sets that are pulled down on his channel so probs not that.

EDIT saying that I've just had a look through his account at first I only seen his new stuff but he has quite a few of his old sets on there that you cant listen has they are Exclusive.


Also wonder if he himself is putting in the requests, (I cant imagine he has the time to keep sifting through mixcloud looking through sets) or are the sets being flagged by Audio fingerprinting by mixcloud, which they then send out the notifications just like YT on behalf of the copyright holders.

You would think they would want their tracks to be played, in the sense the more plays they get in, they gain more income from the copy rights.

The thing his some of his remix's could be on other sets you have upped, from what Ive seen in the past it only seems to be sets by him, with his own remixes in that seems to be taken down, but I could be wrong on that.

So it seems hes trying to get artist to receive royalties for their music, which is fair enough.

PRS per-play payment examples BBC Radio 1: £13.63 per minute. BBC Radio 2: £24.27 per minute. BBC 6 Music: £5.25 per minute
