Techno was made for events like this at the vast industrial club that is Fabrik, and with Derrick May, Carl Craig, Mad Mike Banks, Kevin Saunderson and more spinning, it’s going to be quite something.
Derrick May, along with his Belleville, Michigan high school friends Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, commonly known as the Belleville Three, is credited with developing the futuristic variation on house music that would be dubbed "techno" by Atkins. His Innovator album is one of dance music’s finest and, as such, he has been responsible for bookings at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival with Carl Craig in recent years.
Kevin Saunderson is considered to be one of the originators of techno and his Inner City group became known worldwide for house anthems like Good Life. He’s a true pioneer who’s future music will come alive in the vast innards of Fabrik. Mad Mike Banks has become known for acid ouse and industrial music as much as techno having co-founded, along with Jeff Mills, US record label Underground Resistance and was a key player in the second generation of Detroit techno.
Carl Craig’s work is integral to the progression of the Detroit sound through the second and third waves. His soulful, jazzy output varies from deep, sexy techno to broken beat, proto deebee and his Planet E label puts out some of the best techno there is. Rounding off this techno heaven that is the main room tonight, is Octave One - a group of American Techno musicians composed of siblings Lenny Burden and Lawrence Burden.
There will also be two more rooms of Detroit Techno from Bull Shit Bookings and Van Vas, including sets from Frank Kvitta, Dj Lukas vs Obi, Preach, Rumenige & Loktibrada. As well as great music there will be 10, 000 clubbers from around the world, vibrant dancers, huge ice cannons and more all to add to the underground party mix.
The two huge hangars of Fabrik - a purpose built club with perfect acoustics and the most engaging and colourful atmospheres of any venue around the world - make it one of the must visit hot spots for any clubbing enthusiast and, with the music on offer as hot as it is tonight, you’d be mad not to.
Goa - Gonçalo, Timo Maas and D'Julz at Fabrik
Fabrik, Madrid
14th February
1pm – 1am 30EUR
Timo Maas, D’Julz, Maetrik, Rocco, DJ Gregory, Alix Alvarez, Autosound, Junior, In Dub and more
February 14th is a special day – it’s another electronic music fest at Fabrik, with Timo Maas, D’Julz, DJ Gregory and more on hand to indulge the 10, 000 clubbers dancing to their beats.
Raining down techno from up on high will be German Timo Maas who has played at the best clubs in the world for decades, whilst Bass Culture Boss and techy house master D’Julz builds more groove. DJ Gregory is a DJ and producer for the likes of Defected Records and his house hits can get any dance floor rocking. The classy deep house you can expect from Buzzing Fly/Freerange Records man Rocco comes along with many more shades of electronic music on offer, and plenty of colourful production added into the mix.
Everything about Fabrik is supersized – the amount and quality of music, the smoke cannons, the crowds, the sound system. For that reason it rightfully deserves its nick name - ‘The world’s clubbing Mecca.’
