Bank Holiday season is approaching, and that means two things; firstly, the sun is on its way, and secondly, we can party on Sundays without that usual Monday dread dangling over us. Oh, and as if by magic that leads us on to introduce you to the Cosmic Courtyard Boogie which just happens to take advantage of both of those things....
This coming May Bank Holiday, Leeds’ finest promotions join forces and pool DJing talent to put on an afternoon and night time party outside in the blazing – we hope – sunshine. The hidden courtyard of A Nation of Shopkeepers is a nicely secluded but open-air space in the centre of Leeds which will make the perfect setting for a lazy Sunday afternoon drinking and dancing session to a wide remit of sound, from jazz to funk to house to disco...
Headling the event is boomty and jacking house master, Derrick Carter, all the way from Chicago. As well as Carter’s well known sounds, there will be live, off-the-wall performances from beatboxer an flute playing extraordinaire Mak of All Trades and a visually impressive set from DMC Battle champion DJ Rasp. Plenty of local talent also get in on supplying the sounds for the event, all of whom will be on hand to make sure hips don’t stop swaying and feet don’t stop shifting on the cobbled yard floor.
So, take a lazy afternoon, drifting melodies, rolling kicks, cosmic energy, free flowing fun, dancing in the sun and what do you have? A Cosmic Courtyard Boogie, that’s what.
