The half year milestone has passed and Spank the Squirrel continues to go from strength to strength. With past guests including Strictly Rhythms Ben Westbeech, Iglo head honcho Alex Nut, DMC Champ Blakey and DJs sets from The Mystery Jets, Is Tropical & The Saudis, the diversity of Spank and its ‘Expect nothing, get everything’ music policy seems to be working. Not one to be pigeon hold Spank the Squirrel is a party night where dancing rather than chin scratching is order of the day and residing at the much loved Book Club in Shoreditch, complete with Ping Pong and Pool, the night itself is as much about having fun as the venue is.
This month Spank co-promoter and Creative Director of The Book Club is celebrating the big 3 0 and has pulled in big brother Tim aka the Filthy Dukes (Fabric/Kill Em All) and good pal Sophie Lloyd to do the honours on the decks, just the kind of friends you need!
Last year was a very busy year for the Filthy Dukes, touring with their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Nonsense In The Dark’, releasing the Fabric 48 mix compilation and remixing artists including Lady Ga Ga, Ian Brown, Hockey and Temper Tramp. Tonight Tim will be flying solo & selecting tunes to suit this intimate space, pushing through current nu house & disco sounds, into whatever keeps the dance floor buzzing and the party alive.
Supporting Tim will be Arcobalenos Sophie Lloyd, a disco queen and purist to her heart. Only quality drops with this girl who has been working her way back through the genealogy of disco and house mining only the finest melodic seams. Blending classic disco, nu disco, house and italo for the most subtle situations as well as the most fashionable floors (Shoreditch House, British Fashion Awards, Selfridges) her taste is unparalleled so don't come expecting anything except an exceptional journey.
And supporting these London heavyweights with of course be the birthday girl herself & dj partner Lucie la Mode as nauti.cool, Atticus Harris and BabyStarr.
