aw doo......yes people including myself service technic's .....but it's not really needed unless you know your having problems with them
eg loose or stiff tone arms.......balancing probs or pitch problems
not much else really goes wrong.
a service usually involves setting and balancing pitch, tone arm and brakes then greasing the bearings and other moving parts and cleaning out all internal pan pots and the pitch fader.
it cost's £15 / £20 per deck plus the price of any new parts (bearings / fader) depending on where you go. but it is very easy to do it yourself. (just make sure you unplug the deck before opening it).
most problems can be sorted with a can of "servisol super 10" which you can buy from hard to find records for under £6.
spray it into the pitch fader and move it up and down.....this will clean the inside of the fader (also good for iliminating crackle's on cross faders etc)
then remove the platter and the plastic cover under the platter.......hoover out the dust but be careful not to damage any parts......then spray away and wipe down with a clean cloth (yellow duster is ideal).
replace cover and platter, plug in and switch on...it will run like a brand new deck.
if you have a loose or unstable tone arm then you can adjust the screws on the side and top at the back (you have to first undo the outer ring (less than a quarter of a turn) then tighten the inner screw.......(only use your finger and thumb on the screwdriver as you can easily crush the bearing casing or spike on the end of the screw).......tighten the screw until it just touches the contact (even a fraction of a turn more will cause stiffness and your records will jump or stick)........then make sure the middle screw stays still while you tighten the outer ring (this is a locking nut so you can put abit of presure on it, just make sure the middle screw doesn't tighten up with it)

and remember unless you know there is a problem they don't need a service
