It's just not on is it. I was a bit unsure myself at first. Liked the sound of 8 meg but was sceptical with it being such a new ISP and all... Especially since you have to transfer your phone service too.

Have to say, was really worth it. 8 meg BB is an absolute must have for an internet junkie like me ;)

Can't believe there's no BD service in Wigan! I'd bomb their support desk with complaints.
Been onto them a couple of time since connection. Transfer went ahead as planned with no delays or problems but still haven't received the modem or connection software even though I've ordered it twice since signing up!

Customer service reps don't really know what they are talking about but the BB service is first class. New company, spose staff will get better with time.

Bulldog have got a service in Wigan (or so their website claims) but it doesn't cover my number, possibly because it's a Telewest/Blueyonder line, or maybe i'm too far from one of their exchanges at the moment :|

It sounds far better value than Blueyonder, but at least my 1Mb service will increased to 4Mb for free in september or october :)

hi speed broadband

Lucky enough to catch Versatel's 20 meg ADSL offer of 40EUR/c25quid a month

Amsterdam is a fibre-rich city and a European supernode POP - Makes the delivery of ADSL2 a tad easier than in the UK - and definitely a lot cheaper. (special offer at present, as they are bundling subsidised streamed free Dutch football, not that I watch it of course). www.versatel.nl

Best download so far has been 13.77Mb/Sec. The 1meg rated up rate (about 860k in practice) allows streaming to the www.piraterevival.co.uk server in the UK at 320k. Gonna do a full clean install and set up some new HDs for torrents. (and no, not porn vids before you wade in...you can get em round the corner, and the red light district's 7 mins away).

Wondering if there have been any disaster UK rollouts of +2 meg broadband - not kept up to date in recent months - the versatel rollout was a farce, it managed to hit the news over here. Was a plug n play job other than installing a small versatel splitter unit to the wall. Customer service costing 25c a minute was pointless, no communication other than email, delays, engineers not turning up even tho they threatened 40 charge if they called and you were out. The Legendary Ruthless Efficiency of Dutch Business strikes again. :S

agreed

Aye, the 20meg line performs more like a 10meg in practice, with spurts of speed dependant on the server I'm grabbing from and probably some form of contention (which I can't be ars3d to look up).

How does the 8meg perform?
