A-Z, purely as its easier to find things (I reckon anyway)

That said, I've got a whole comparment dedicated to harthouse, as that is the one label I've got 99% of the release on, just a couple outstanding. That is the only execption to my rule there!

A-Z looks nicer as well I reckon :)

About bloody time ;)

I reckon it would take you years to put that lot into A-Z order ... So I would say by label or even just by type of music .. ie detroit techno in one bit, italian in another etc.

Putting them all in sleeves will be a good start anyway :p

LOLOL why does that sound familiar lol :$ :S

A-Z for me with slight variations (balearic/downbeat, hiphop, soul & funk, indie dance/baggy, accapellas, comp album sections)... although have done 'groupings' ie. D Zones, Bonesbreaks & Fourth Floor stuff, all Todd Terry guises, all C & C guises, all FDW guises, DMC stuff etc etc :D

I wouldn't mind giving you a hand :D My idea of heaven is being left in a room full of unsorted tunage :D (except funnily enuff me own lol)

By Genre and Alpabet. It works. Define about four genres (like italian house, pre 93, Progressive 94+ or whatever, stick to what you class as what, and do the alphabet. Section for boots and pella's and albums, Sorted.

When I originally started collecting tunes, I broke things up by simple region category: UK, USA & Europe, although I always sorted alphabetically by label.

After discovering Discogs I started the process of cataloging the collection, which I am still doing. As a result of this cataloging, I thought it might be better to re-sort alphabetically by label.

I am going to give up on this and go back to some form of regional categorisation, along with alphabtical label sorting.

I'm that sad that labels I have got a lot of releases of will be sorted in release order. :(

Youve got to keep the labels together , even if youve only got a couple ,that way youre inspired to add to it. Then styles of music.. Dont believe in the a-z it just never works. Its a bit like the dilema in the book/film High fidelity. Its great to have that dilema though... Anyway how are you Blu nose ? Heard the hazy's going great.. Seeya ..Red nose !!!! aka sj

The problem I would have with label orientated tunes, is that you need to know the label of every tune in the collection!!

I find that by genre and alphabet, you know what type of tune your looking for and you know its name, so therefore I really do find that system to be easiest when you have many thousand records.........the only time I slipped up was grouping 94-97 piano choones together and a few other ones.......over time theyve gone a bit awry.

Once its done you can easily rearrange anyway.

Yeah I was convinced I wouldn't be able to either before I changed mine to label first, then genre, then alphabetically, but to be honest I would say it works better for me now than it did before. I seem to be able to find stuff a lot quicker and it helps to know what releases I'm missing off stuff I (anally) want the whole catalogue of.

I'm deffo glad I did it now - (he says, still justifying to the mrs why it took several weeks worth of records strewn over every room in the house to get them all in order...:$ )

Lol - just remembered that I had a convo with Pezz on NYE and he's looking at putting his in order of key....

There u go Mick, do it in key - dare ya...lol...:fekked: :cops:

I also once read somewhere that Junior Vasquez used to do his in order of what time they'd be played at in a club - i.e warm up, mid set, end of night stuff - sure it was him who I read did it like that...
