yeah i've been mate - i travelled around oz n 98 - but i stayed in hostels so wasn't the best of accomadation, but you won't have that problem if you are staying with family. That said, Brisbane ws the best hostel i stayed in by a million miles, it was more like a hotel and nice and cheap  Brisbane was probably my favourite place to be honest cos i went to the barrier reef while i was there and saw a shark, only alittle one, but still a shark in the wild - quality!!- i visited melbourne, sydney, surfers paradise, bundaberg and finished up in brisbane - the weather up there was just awesome, and the people were very friendly, as they were everywhere to be honest. one word of warning - if you are thinking you will be out clubbing at a decent club think again - well i never found anywhere decent anyway, bearing in mind this was 1998 they were still playing crap from the 80's n most pubs i went to - the nky half decent tune i heard all the time i was out there was jason nevins vs rund dmc - 'it's like that' - which was even funnier as thse local lads with some sort of milk board t-shirts on thought they were the coolest dancers n earth... much to the amusement of me and my mate who thought they were having epilectic fits or something as they tried to breakdance :D
All in all it was a top time you will have a great time - just make sure you go the barrier reef, you will kick yourself if you go all the way out there and don't experience it

Hi Blackburn,

I'm going living in Brisbane for a while in December, going staying with my sister there. She loves it, she's lived in Aus for 4 years now and that's it for her she's never coming back to England much to my dismay  She's hoping that I love it as much and stay for good, never know we shall see. Four of my friends have just had a year over there travelling 3 have just got back the other 1 comes back soon. They had such a good time but they travelled all over I don't plan to do that (they reckon that'll change rather fast though !)

I spent yesterday with them and was looking at all the piccies, video clips (some v funny one's !!!!!) and listening to all the tales, can't wait to go, it can't come soon enough !!

Take a look at a few places to get you in the mood for your travels :) these are all close to Brisbane: Rainbow beach, Fraser Island, Stradbroke Island and Nimbin (aussies own Amsterdam :D )

I'll stick a message on here for you when I get there and let you know what I think of the place :)

How long are you going over there for ?

Thanks Diane for the info  , I'll have a look on the internet for them places you metioned. Thinking of going for minimum 3 weeks but it all depends on how much time the missus can get of work :| .....

if you only do one thing....go to Frazer Island,

a 100 mile long sand dune that you get the ferry to.

you basically hire a 4X4 and go wild in the sand for two night.. with loads of stubbies of beer and a barbq

ANYONE who's done it will recommend it..

(edit) its about 6 hours on a coach, ie 1mm on the map
