just seen this pisser of a thread on the stoke city board about walking to manchester united
Oatcake Fanzine - Anyone here walk to Manchester
"Yes I do remember this.Because of serious persistent vandalism during this season (setting a train on fire amongst the alleged offences), Stoke fans had been banned from football special trains by the then British Rail just before this FA Cup game, and as a so called defiant protest, hundreds of Stokies decided to walk to the game.
Seemed like a good idea at the time, but after starting off from the Kings Hall at midnight the night before the game, our particular group had got as far as Congleton on the A34 and when a furniture van pulled up and offered us a lift to Altringham, about 40 of us gave in to temptation, fatigue, common sense etc and were dropped off in Manc land in the early hours. Not a great time, achieved absolutely nowt, and would only recommend it as a cure for insomnia"
