I am as thick as pig shit when it comes to this new fangled technology lark....

How can I tell whether an .avi file is xvid or divx please ? I'm thinking of getting a new dvd player that will play xvid / divx so I can burn off those gb's of avi that's cluttering up me harddrive - it's not all porn I hasten to add...

Is there a way of converting 'normal' avi to divx so I can play them on the new player ?

Please help a very confused young man - taaaaa :D

Get this >>> G Spot codec information prog.

Open it, and drag the video file into the window. It'll analyse it and give you all the info

You should be able to play most DivX/Xvid on you DivX DVD player unless they are using a DivX 6+ encryption in which case it would need recoding or your player's firmware updating.

To convert all media to DivX format with a simple drag and drop you can use DivXCreate 6.2.
You can grab that from most torrent sites and it is also fully included in the DivX6.2 Pro package (17MB's ish so you know which file to look for).

You can also use WinAvi converter which is simply fantastic. Torrent : http://www.araditracker.com/downloa...7c1f0&f=WinAVI.ALL.Products.4in1{REQ}.torrent
