Errm, its been a while since I needed help, so I may as well do it properly whilst Im here. there seems to be a serious problem with my PC. Im not sure what to do next without losing everything (Ive hijacked my dads laptop typing this). It doesnt want to load windows :(. It boots up, spits all the blurb, looks fine, then it just goes to a black screen and hangs. However, it works in safe mode....but not safe mode with network support, so i cant even save my stuff to CD or cable it on somesort of network :(. Ive checked for viri, spybotted and adawared just for the hell of it, nothing found........Ive defraggged the partitions and checkdisked the C partition where windows XP pro resides. It found 4 bad sectors or something - is this bad news?. Its a relatively new SATA disk, samsung i think. I dont understand how it lets me see my hard drives and windows in safe mode, but cant load windows normally. It would also seem my CD's of Windows XP I made arent bootable :(.......but I have my dads XP 'home' Cd thats bootable, so I tried to do a 'fix' off the CD, perhaps exchanging Cd's to the Pro version mid flight (I didnt try that though). However when it gets to the part where it gives a choice of "R" for repair, it informs me it cannot find a hard disk attached to my computer :o .........and I get no option but to restart - to a blank black screen again. Now, when its loading the Home CD (i need pro bootable really).......its loading devices and says press f6 to load third party drivers for hardware such as my SATA drive.........Ive done this before, and have a floppy with the said drivers on.......but, I do that, and it still doesnt find the hard disk. So, I reboot, choose safe mode and it all comes on fine, but restricted by the safe mode kicking in. So, really, Im stuck. I cant save my files onto CD, i cant use a network, I cant use the internet, and basicly im stuck what to do. If it comes to reformatting the C partition, then thats what it takes and Id have to get over it...........but, I cannot, must not, loose my data, especially my music Ive made, and some rather important design files in CAD,and theres litterally Gigs of program installs since I last backed up. What can I do? Bear in mind I'll need to look at any responses at work during my dinner break, and when I get home I'll have no internet.....:(. I think its a virus going round or something, or if my disk is shagged, aslong as I can remove everything Im not bothered long term, Id have to go and get a new one asap. Bit of a catch 22 innit.........but Im hopefull cos atleast safe mode comes on (at the moment). Cant see an easy way out of this one though without a lot of :@ and :'( . Shame my Pro Cd's arent bootable, but if the repair doesnt see my hard disk, then that wouldnt work anyway. Perhaps thats what it is, the boot sector is shagged on the disk and why windows wont start normally? I hope not. Cheers for any clues Sirius.
