Ok so we have 'bootlegs', 're-edits', 'edits' -and I've just seen a 'bootleg re-edit' of an Eddie Kendricks track I wanted
Im confused -could anyone please help a girl out here and explain the differences?

A re-edit is what it says really, an edit. It's not a remix, its probs a shortened version of the tune, a lengthened version, or a rearrangement of the tune.

A digital re-edit would be the same tune, but better sounding than its original form

A remix its like to deconstruct a tune and rebuild it diffently from what it originally was, adding things to it, changing the style, speeding it up, etc etc.

Generalizing

Bootleg: this would be a straight (unauthorised) repress of the orignal

Re-edit: someone has changed the arrangement of the tune to be make it more dancefloor friendly - ie extending the intro and outro and adding some drops and maybe a couple of FX - but the production has not been altered (maybe a little EQ to beef it up) Elton John's - Are You Ready to Love #1 from last year was a re-edit

Remix: this where many production elements have been added to the original to make it more dancefloor friendly ie new drums/basslines and synths - eg Ben Liebrands Mix Of Bill Withers Lovely Day or Sure Is Pures Remix of Doobie Brothers Long Train Running

However Re-edit is a very "in vogue" expression at the moment and can often mean a remix anyway

best bet is to have a listen 'cos personally Redits = :D , Remixes = :(

whats the EK track yer after? Girl You Need A Change Of Mind/Going Up In Smoke/Keep on Truckin/Date With The Rain????

thanks guys :D

so - my bootleg re-edit of Eddie Kendricks -Goin up in Smoke is just an (unauthorised) repress of the orignal, but re-arranged :D

One of my fave re-edits then is Nathan D-Troit - "No Sleep Til Green Street -oh and the stuff on Moxie is brilliant too
