How to get around windows XP authentication!! Hi all, can get you into a passy protected XP installation in minuites, something i do on a regular basis due to clients forgetting their pass words, i fyou wish to access a windows installation but have no idea of passwords there is a very easy way around it, basically all you have to do is delete the SAM file, this holds all account authentication settings for all profiles, be it on a workgroup or domain. to do this you will need to use a bootable cd to give you access to a prompt. If your HDD is running FAT32 this is a piece of piss If your HDD is running NTFS on the other hand its a little more time consumings, as to access the command line you still need to provide the administrative user name and password, which if you aint got is somewhat of a problem ;) However this is faily simple to get round using the correct tools, i use Bart PE which is a bootable image of XP, now you can use this and boot, and use the built in FILEMANAGER which gives you access to the "PROTECTED" partition regardless of username and password, once on all you need to do is locate the SAM file and delete it, presto job done. (pm me for SAM location details as im mashed at the mo) Now you can boot up your machine, when you are prompted for username and password you can now log in as Administrator, the user name defaulted back to null which means all u gotta do is hit enter, presto again your back in windows with no data loss and no messing about with HDDs slaving them all over the show. If you want, you can PM me and i will happily talk you though it, not like i do much in work anyways cept whore the internet all day hehe Like i say, i deal with network security and infrastructure for a living but am more than happy to ablige when you guys need it.
