Its approachin decision time now as Im gonna be purchasing a CD shortly.

I got bought some for christmas of my girlfriend but their more the type that your mobile cheesy DJ would use in a dodgy pub so had to return them and Im havin to put cash to whatever model I buy.

Iv narrowed it down to the following Choices:

Denon DNS 1000 (Cheapest)

Pioneer CDJ 800

Denon DNs 5000 (Most Expensive) *will seriously hurt my cash flow if I go for these lol

Defo can't afford to Pioneer CDJ 1000.

I haven't had any experience of any of them... was just about to order the Pioneer CDJ 800 but the shop assistant tells me they don't play MP3's is this correct?

If youve got some experience of the above models which would you recommend em

Think my biggest problem though is that I only have about 10 mp3s on my PC and about 2000 tunes on vinyl :S

You're right, CDJ 800s don't play MP3s.

I've got one, and apart from the MP3 issue, I'm really pleased with it. I think I looked at the 800, the similarly priced Denon, and the 1000. From what I remember the jog wheel on the 800 is the same as on the 1000, and I didn't really see what the 1000 offered that the 800 didn't. Can't remember what I didn't like about the Denon, but I had a good long time mixing on both that and the 800 in the shop (Sound Control in Bristol) and preferred the 800. Mixing on it is just great, maybe easier even than on a Technics. I'm thinking of getting a second CD deck, and will almost definitely get an 800 again. Then starts the long process of ripping my record collection, but that's another story...

Sometimes MP3 playback can be unstable on CDJ's...... I have a Denon DNS1000 .... Now days I convert the mp3 to wav and play em on the deck... as I have found the MP3 to be good but not as reliable as playing wav* depending on how the MP3 was encoded....

For me I went for the Denon as I got em for a good price and i don't intend to use the CDJ's as my main source....I still use my technics for that.....

have a look at the Pioneer CDJ200's they are similar price to Denon 1000's and also have the MP3 play back....

If I had the spare cash to burn I would have had the CDJ800's or CDJ1000's just for liking top of the range kit and no other reason ....but to be honest the Denons do the job and very well, with some neat little effects like echo loop, flanger, filter etc......they do the trick and I am well pleased with what they do for the little investment...

Cheers fellas

Im leaning towards the Pioneers CDJ 800..

Thats a couple of you who have said good things about em... was gonna go with them originaly but the shop assistant put me off a bit -

He said they haven't got that many features compared to other CD decks of a similar price and MP3 would come in handy - though I guess Id just probably burn about 10 tracks to a CD rather than have loads in MP3 format anyway

Tim are you completely happy or do you considering upgrading? Like you Id rather have a top spec model and I dont wanna end up buyin the Denon (I can get for about £300) then end up selling to upgrade. Thats why i might push the boat out and get the Denon 5000

At the moment I am completly satisfied Jack, but I don't use them as regular as my Technics....If I was to use them as my only source of turntable then maybe in time I may change my mind. The thing with CDJ's they always come with more bells and whistles and keep improving...... 1210's are 1210's and you know what you get and they are industry standard....... CDJ will keep evolving.....so naturally in time I may get tempted with new technology.....very difficult to say really...... But I do like top of the range gizmo's..... I just did not want to invest in top of the range if I did not get on playing on CD's........ I also went through the same headfuck of ..do I get the Pioneer CDJ800 or save cash and get the DNS1000.... took me months to decide, I decided as I was not going to do lots of scratching, then I did not need the CDJ800 and pocketed the extra cash.

Yeah its a damn difficult choice... :S I might be best seeing if I can go somewhere and try n compare.

So am I right in thinking that you cannot scratch on the DNS1000?

I love scratchin (normally badly lol) & generally pissin about and if Im gonna spend that much I want to be able to.

Idealy Id like to go for the Pioneer CDJ1000 as they are industry standard (like 1210s) but they are so damn expensive. Though Denon DNS 5000 actually seem better and are cheaper.

You can scratch on the Denon DNS1000 - but it's is not as acurate as vinyl....... I can't comment on other CDJ's for scratching.

I decided that if I was gonna scratch (not that I can), I would still use the Vinyl deck for scratching....

I really can't see myself replacing my 1210's ever really.......coz I do not have the time and energy to rip 5,000 records.

Depends what you want out of the CD Deck...

I wanted a reliable brand, ease of use, vinyl feel for rocking the platter backwards and forwards and MP3 playback at a good price.... the mp3 play back has become the least important aspect now.....

I tried out the decks before I bought, I reckon it is important to do that to make sure you are 100% happy
