There used to be this guy who lived on the next steet to mine when i was growing up. He had a gingerish mullet and always, always wore a white muscle vest. He also always wore light blue stonewashed jeans and had lots of 'gewd' on his bod. Quite a few rings, perhaps a medallion that sat proudly amoungst his ginger rug. He had swallow tats on his hands, and as tragic as it sounds sometimes i would catch a tiny smell of his Old Spice and pretend it was my real dad (who i remember smelling like that- smell is the most nostalic of emotons for me). He never wore a coat, even in the snow i would watch him walk past my folks to go to the offy and he would be there, strutting like a peacock with corned beef skin, smoking a roll up (before they came cool again). His name, well his nickname was 'Mayor'. His wife was called Stella, and she always wore slingback high heels and very tight short skirts. I remember her shoes always had the paint coming of the heels, and i used to like walking behing her listening to the 'clip clop' sound they made whilst skenning for new white plastic showing though on her worn down heels. Mayor died about 15 years ago, he had a stroke. Stella could not cope with living in the same house so she went to live by the sea somewhere ( it used to make me sad thinking of her sinking into the sand in her knackerd slingbacks missing her husband). It sounds silly but i felt really bad, as this old odd couple were really part of my youth. Anyone else have strong memories from youth of people they never actually knew, just observed and shit. My mum always said i was a wierd kid who would spy on people lol, so i have loads.
