youre right. Everyone enjoys different aspects of music. My life would be very sad without dance music and especially old skool. If you ask me (which no body ever does but I bore everyone to death n e way:)) why does it have to be one or the other?. New or Old?. I reckon everyone here listens to both old and new tunes, but whilst they are on an Old Skool board, Old Skool is the favoured topic of conversation obviously. That 'rose tinted' look is what the site is all about in some aspects.
Anyway as Joker sez, a good tunes a good tune, and if you like it then nothing else matters new or old. All those who were there in the day love it 'cos they grew up on it and the atmosphear and new folks whose never heard Old skool before love it cos its a wicked style of music which is hard to fault...... not to mention the locals around here. Good set of folks and no mistake.

Sirius.

withh total respect, not many people here have listened to my original points, please dont give me "everyone knows what they like and likes what they know" type answer, I mean its like trying to have a debate with my grandad about paintings or something having a debate on this subject, please can we try a bit harder too debate about the issues Ive mentioned.

Cheers.....

well to quote your first post..

There is loads of great dance music being made now that is diverse and interesting, so why just concentrate on old skool piano tunes?

i'm sure everyone is aware of that but to state the obvious this is 'oldskoolanthemz.co.uk' obviously a speciality site..all we're interested in on here is the oldskool...i've no doubt that there are people on here who listen to other types of music, and no doubt they post their views on other types of boards..e.g trancerus.com...

i'm not quite sure what you are expecting from an oldskool site..

we are not living in the past just remembering it..

yeah but this board is about people posting there views on a subject, you posted your view on the subject others have said what they think which is fine, its not a debate as such its different peoples views on what was said in the first place nobody is right or wrong in the matter coz everyone is entitled to an opinion and as long as people aint critisised for having a different opinion or sayin there view on a subject then thats a o k.

I think some of you are talking bollocks about how good the tunes were back then and they aren't the same anymore.. the MAIN REASON is the quality of the pills.. if they were same quality today like they were back in 90-91 then all us lot would probably still be running around clubs with glow-sticks up our arses hugging one another.. and yes, we would be dancing to Trance more than likely.. I love my old skool because of the feeling i remember from all that time ago.. mainly the pills which made me very happy.. now they just make you feel monged...:axe: :axe:
remember 'Drugs make the Clubs'...

I liked sweet sensation back in the day, I just downloaded it again, too be honest it is a very basic, unsophisticated toon , that has no bearing on the way great dance music is made today, COME ON ADMIT IT,, you are just being sentimetal and silly.

I could write forwver on this but I am gonna keep it brief:

When I started going out (93) I had missed out on some of the proper ground breaking old skool but it was still an underground thing. It wasnt just about the fantastic, boundary-less music but about the atmosphere (everybody friendly, making mates, happiness,CRAZINESS etc etc etc ) and yes the pills were better but they were and are JUST aid to everything else.

Nowadays, in terms of modern music , its mainly shite and so are the mlodern 'Glam' clubs. The appealing thing to me and many others on here is all of the above positive factors of old skool. Places like GT give me the closest fell to Bowlers in 93 that I have ever had since it shut, and that is in every respect.

It is not a case of living in the past, its a case of being part of something where there are no pre requisites orparticular ways you should dress/act/talk and where the music is uplifiting.

I may be waffling, but I know that the maority of people on here know exactly what I mean without me having to spell it out. If you dont understand it then fine, but its an emotion, a love, a reality and because of that its timeless.

There aint any 'new' CLUBS (a la cream, gatecrasher, Gods kitchen which are anything like Bowlers, Shelleys, Kinetic Angels etc etc etc) where the atmosphere is ANYTHING liek it was years back. If you want the atmosphere and 'fun' you get in those places then you may as well just go to a load of bars in town and get pissed cos they are no different.

Yours,

All this new music is tooooooo boring for me :)
Its all way too over produced and follows the same set formulas (yawn)
But to say Im a sad fuk cos I aint into the new stuff is just a silly thing to say.
I like some of the DnB stuff thats about now but thats about it really.
Im not really into the piano tunes that u say most ppl on here are I prefer the rave/techno styles and what puts me off the newer trance/house stuff is the fact most tunes sound the same this year as they did last year and the year before where as old skool from 89 sounds loads different than 91 which sounds loads different to 92 stuff infact the speed/style and techniques used changed from month to month (Innovation, ie. producers took risks :) ).
You said sweet sensation aint a great tune and I agree with you on that (allthough its ok) but to say its bad cos its basic is wrong I think, one of my favourite tunes ever is 33 1/3 queen - searchin and that tune is basically 1 riff repeated all the way through with slightly different drum patterns over it but I think that is part of its charm :)
I feel the tunes nowadays have none of the rapid changes in style and the energy that can be brought into an oldskool set.
Take the djs as well now they are all scared of getting a beat out of place and each tune is blended seamlessy into the next (yawn again) theres no cutting tunes up and slamming them across and cutting them up.
Oh and Im a sucker for breakbeats not doosh doosh bass drums all the way through but breaks sound silly at above 140 bpm so there not used as much now and if I hear another trance tune with them addagio style strings and a bass line that goes mmmaaammmaaammmaaa I may scream...
I say listen to what ever does it for you.
mmm its 3am Im tired and cained listening to Secret desire - white light from 1990 and Ive got a big smile on my face so I'll leave it there :guitar: :drum: :guitar:

I totally agree with you taff, I mean I was in the Disco Biscuit Posse in monroes, and it got ridiculous. Everyone just ended up talking about how good they were constantly (you knowin an addicts kind of way). It transpired that there were elements of Crack in these things, christ it was a lucky escape for a lot of people I tell you. The music did sort of make you rush, but it ended up with Dj's playing the music at about 3000 BPM, doing sort of megamixes if tunes playing each 1 for about 1 minute each with a tossy MC shouting his head off about disco biscuits with a gay disco/italalin cliche going on behind it.........Then came Pianoman and the likes and the complete parody of the whole thing occurred in clubs like peppermint place et al, It became a joke, and thats where I think it should be left really.

Right.....wasnt gonna say much on this thread, cos basically lots of peeps have said what I think, but after reading this Im gonna have my say.

This is an old skool site, where people who really APPRECIATE the music come on to talk about it being top and also about how good the "scene" was back in the early 90's. Yes it probably was a lot to do with the pills, but Ive not done owt for over 8 years and Ive been listening to old skool ever since I first heard it and I still rush like mad to the majority of the tunes that were made back then, with no optional extras whatsoever.

Youve started this thread to get people debating about new and old music, then youve criticised everyone for not saying exactly what you want them to say...to be honest it sounds like you like the sound of youre own voice and your opinion is the only one that matters.

I am into all different types of music and I do like some newer dance stuff (altho that is very rare). But this is an old skool site and people come on here to remember the times and to also recreate it. If thats being sentimental and silly, then I for one am proud to be it. I look forward to going to GT every month and now cometogether is here too, Im looking forward to that too. Old skool music makes me happy and this site has introduced me to people who are like minded and very friendly.

Long live old skool I say, and the people who are into it are the friendliest ever (in my experience and probably a lot of other peoples). So if you dont like it and just get off on slagging it and the people off, then why exactly are you here???????

Sweet Sensation (one of the best tunes ever :D ) xxxxx

why come on an oldskool site and talk about modern music

fuck that id go to 4 clubbers

i think you've got a lot of people round here biting their tongues missed a monday, i don't really understand why you come on here either...

if you go to google and type in music and then put -oldskool you'll find lots of non oldskool sites...some should be more to your liking...
