Just bought radio soulwax pt 2 (the only one to get cleared and released) and when it goes into a computer is shows no audio on the cd! tried everything but you can't listen to or copy it. Then when you put into stereo..voila plays the audio. Hope everyone doesn't start doing this

I have plenty of CD's that can't be played on my PC, some are over 10 years old so it isn't anti piracy techniques that's to blame for those..!

As you probably well know mate, until they make it impossible for you to run an app such as Soundforge on a PC, and remove audio ins and outs as welll, people will still make their own recordings of CD's.

Nathan is right - there is now an anti piracy system that works in exactly this way - as you say though it won't stop peeps- but it may not be as easy as Audiograbber

I attended a very nerdy computer course just before xmas.

As is normally the case we each had to introduce ourselves to the group.

One of the attedness worked for SONY and had just developed CD software copy protection system. (I orget the name of the product.)

THis provoked a lot of rhetoric. He explained that the software would allow users to copy info to " a hard disk" but not to another "CD".

When I pointed out to him that this would not stop piracy -people could make a tape copy, copy onto a pc and then to a cd he looked as if no one had thought of this at SONY.

He spent a minute in thought and then explained

"but that would cause a deterioration in quality".

When I pointed out that peopl who where buying pirated music could "care less about quality" he looke a broken man....

Im afraid the pirates and pirate minded technology guru's are always in line with whatever gets braught out. Whether it means a chip in your computer or hi fi or whatever or software that bypasses the lock somehow, it will appear soon lol.

Probably old news, but I saw a device last night from china which lets you (illegally) use a hardlock/dongle protected software over a network using only one hardlock!. I wish they were readily available :). Software that costs 8000 per seat by means of a dongle must be sh!tting it, lol.

Here's hoping,

Sirius.

These record companies are getting what they deserve. They've been ripping everyone off for decades with their excessive prices, which is why piracy is so common.

Anyway if it only affects music coming out today with this new protection system it'll hardly affect me - the vast majority of music being released today is crap. I'll stick with me 89-92 vinyl.

You should be able to copy it ok, just you cant rip to mp3 unless you play it on your hi-fi and connect to your pc like others have said.
Someone I work with asked me to copy a couple of new cds for him and they had that same protection on, well one had a different protection which when you put it in pc it would only play at a low bitrate, but the other wouldnt play at all however I used clone cd to copy and they both worked fine.

This subject always makes me laugh.:D

DVD's have this copy protection thing called MACRO VISION. You can't make a VHS copy from a DVD with this ant-piracy thing on the DVD, and also you can't digitally record the audio, but you can (obviously) still make a recording onto any device using phono leads.

No matter how many technological tricks music and software companies come up with, pirates will find a way around them. The only way to stop people from pirating music is to STOP PUTTING RECORD BUTTONS ON HI-FI'S! It's bleedin' obvious innit?

And as for software, STOP SELLING CD BURNERS FOR PC's FOR ABOUT 20 QUID! If they cost a grand no bugger would buy one unless they had a legitamate reason for doing so, i.e. not pirating stuff!

Having said this though, and as much as piracy sucks, I'm still still guilty of it as much as everyone else!

Right...I'm off to do a search on Kazaa! ;)
