Just bought a coupla tunes, both in mint looking condition. not a mark or scratch on them....

However, both tunes start quietly with strings and the first minute of each tune is pretty damn crackly.

Does anyone know how to remove this directly out of the vinyl? I'm asuming it's ground in dust or summat.

I've even tried giving the records a bath!! LOL

Maybe it's just the nature of vinyl?

I bought a brand new record (shakedown - at night) from HMV the other day which was sealed packed. Took it out of the sleave, slapped it straight on the decks and it was pretty damn crackly at the beginning until beat kicked in, then it was fine.

It was only right at the end you could hear the crackle come in again!

Although some records look battered but don't crackle at all. Maybe it's more to do with the pressing that causes it?

Your right though... Burn marks are a nightmare. I've scratched my illegal version of brass disk acappella so much it's unplayable now! grrr.

Sounds like dupree has a fecking lisp :D

An old trick if youre desperate (never tried it, but someone well into 'old' vinyl told me) is to wet it with water (not too much) and play it wet - aparently it momentarily heals jumps and clicks/pops. Although he may just be takin the piss - im not sure.....you can never tell if that guy is serious or not!...

If youre just burnin to your pc/cd whatever, then theres loads of click/pop eliminators available which work really well on your wav file.... You get one built in on CoolEdit, along with hiss removal etc too - I use it all the time.

See ya,

Sirius.

PS if *Anyone* has any tips on unwarping vinyl I would be well happy.... You know the 3rd of a record thats raised itself up from the flat and makes your needle airborne!!!. Got quite a few like that and just to be able to play them again would be good.....

My girlfriend advised me to put a very slightly warped 'slam slam - move' on the ironing board with a damp cloth over it and try to iron it flat !!!

The record not only ended up curling up at the edges, the grooves melted together to make the vinyl unplayable.

Do not try this one :D

I used to clean my vinal by using a dry cloth and the good old breath method which makes the dirt most for a few seconds this always worked a treat for me... only thing is you end up going dizzy after breathing out on 5 tunes...lol

I had a warped record and put it between 2 pieces of wood clamped together and stuck it in the airing cupboard for a couple of days and it worked but leave the inside sleeve on the record to stop further damage and dont leave it next to the boiler i put mine at the very top of airing cupboard cause the heat rises.

wierd way of cleaning vinyl

I was told years ago by one of the Bowlers DJ's (I cant remeber which one cos i was mashed lol)

He said drink coke and then lick the vinyl as the slight coke acidity gets rids of most of the crap on it

dont use anything else acidic or youll be vinylless he said

Sounds disgusting but seems to work really well lol
