D-Zone records, i love some of their releases and happened to notice this which I pinched offa their facecnut site. It mentions at the end that they were (in 2011) on with remastering all the tracks for re-release... anyone know them or heard owt about it... there are other threads at the mo that mention big label re-releases in digital remastered stylee. See here: Biography D-Zone was started in an Essex bedroom in early 1990. It was a way of releasing harder dance material from Dré's original label, Dance Zone. The first release was possible due to the friendship that Dré had with Danny Donnelly of Boogie Times (& later Suburban Base). Dance Zone had been hit by Spartan Distribution going bust and Danny bought 1000 copies of the first d-zone track, Hypersonic "D...ance Tones" that André had got Spartan to pay for. This track was produced by Dré & Danny and again only got recorded because of Danny. Dré had booked a studio session in Surrey but his car had been stolen. Danny offered to drive Dré to the studio in Surrey & Dré asked Danny if he'd like to record a track with him. D-Zone started the careers of many artists including including Micheal Gray, Jon Pearn (Bodyrox), Tim Laws (Gabrielle & Lighthouse Family), Kevin Beber & others. The label also worked with the Blapps Posse and many other great producers that Dré had admired from his DJ'ing days. The label stopped releasing singles after just 3 years when Dré wanted to try something new. The biggest selling artist on the label was Tekno Too (Tekno 2) who's anthemic Jet-Star sold over 75,000 copies worldwide. It missed out on a top 40 because the first batch of 5000 sleeves had the black barcode printed over the blue background which meant they couldn't be read by Gallup's chart machines, a lesson painfully learned. D-Zone also worked with Suburban Base, Reinforced, Strictly Underground and other labels exporting their tracks around the world. Dré re-payed Danny (slightly) by helping Sub Base get their first foreign deal for Sonz of a Loop Da Loop Era "Far Out" with ZYX in Germany. 2011 sees the entire D-Zone catalogue being re-mastered for digital release and the 20th anniversary compilation series along with new material (if we find anything that we love). Send demo's to demos@d-zone.co.uk
