an old subject but im not techy and it drives me mad.

just upgraded computer to an dell XPS with Vista and im using my old soundforge8 for recording.

i can hear the sound and the equalizer is not registering red but it still sounds muffled and theres a delay from whats playing on the deck/vinyl to what sound is being picked up.

even after taking off the needle i can hear sound for about 2-3 seconds.

it sounds jumpy as though my comp cant keep up but obviously should.

any help on Vista settings e.g should i be recording at CD qulaity or studio and rates etc...

any help much appreciated before i break the damn thing

cheers

Has the new pc got a decent built in soundcard? If it's onboard, then you're more likely to have a latency issue Living With Latency

The muffled bit sounds like you've used the mic in, but I couldn't say for sure.

Those are my best guesses, but i'm no expert

You could try audacity Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder as it uses less system resources than Sound forge and will probably sound just as good. It's free and it's what I use anyway and i'm always happy with the results.

i'm using the lead in slot which is what i used to use on my old comp but i used COOL Edit rather than sound forge.

maybe i'll have a go with COOL EDIT again or your suggestion.
