not sure of the year, anyone got any ideas?

Hi Meese

Cheers for the d/load. It sounds like something from 91-ish, but not sure this is a Pleasuredrome tape. I bought the Pleasuredrome tapes directly from Welly at the club every week and they were in a series which were labelled from No.1 to No.9 (I think the No.9 was the one posted last week as 'Welly & Bibbi' (the ones where he gives it the 'La Di Da De, we came to party' at the end).

When I saw ur post just now labelling it as (lazy afternoon), I thought maybe it was gonna be the No.3, which was a tape welly did at home and the tracks were mainly his own favs, with stuff like Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells and Simply Red mixed in (and scratched in!) with house tunes from the day. But its not the same tape.

I dont have the orig tapes anymore so couldnt confirm its not a Pleasuredrome tape, but i was sure only the No.3 (maybe 1 more) was a homemade tape. The rest were live sets from the club.

(I still have the orig of this, it has a handwritten message on the inside of the cover from Welly which says something like "This isnt the real Welly you hear in the clubs, ... .... this is the real Welly straight from the Heart. Peace, Welly '91". (How sad am i remembering some of that lol :$ )

Anyway, cheers for the download anyway. I will try and get the No.3 ripped when I can (struggling to find a tape deck at mo tho), as I really appreciate the mixes you've provided lately.

april the 1st?

Hi Meese

Are you sure that this is Welly? just had a listen and ive gotta say the mixing is proper shite, prob the worst ive heard for a 'proper' dj. i know no-one was arsed about beat-mixing back then but.. Surely this isnt Welly? If he hears you've put his name to this he'll have you by the jibletts big-time lol.

Im still listening to it as im typing this and its defo not him, the scratching is totally not up to his standard.

This sounds like some-ones first-time effort on a pair of belt-drives.

Fog

I asked Welly on his site whether he remembered this set but he didn't recall doing a mix called "Lazy Afternoon"...

That said the tunes are class and the bit where "the DJ" scratches Lee Marrow over the top of Congress is pretty good. :)

might have to edit the post,as people have said it defo isn't up to Welly's standards, might just have to name it old skool mix early 90's untill someone can confirm who it is.

ive go the orig mate, and i also ripped it to CD a couple of yrs back (well the best bits which fitted into 70 mins CD), but when I recorded it I sectioned off each of the tunes so I could skip to the best mixes when in the car lol. SO.. for me to get it uploaded I would need to re-join the tunes so its just all one mix. But i dont know how  (not got a tape deck either now so can't re-do it at mo  ). Will try and get some samples upp'ed in a bit though to give you a feel

Ps. forgot to say, its called : No. 3 "Chillin At Home", DJ Welly November 1991. :O))
