If I had known this I would have never lost my license!!!!!!
The legal limit for alcohol in a MAN on the breath test is 35 units.
The police are obliged to release you if you blow less than 39 units.
If you blow over 50 units you can forget it you screwed.
However:
If you blow between 40 - 49 units the police are supposed to give you a choice of either a blood or urine test.
These tests need to be carried out by a police doctor who will take up to about 2hrs to arrive in which time your body will have absorbed a substantial amount of the alcohol and a blood test will show you to be in the legal limit!
This didn't happen for me (and many others!) what the police do when you have blown over 40 (41 in my case) is ask 'Do you accept that reading?' To which you will reply, if you don't know any better, 'yes'. Stiching yourself right up!
Whilst not illegal as you have already been offered the code of practice to read (a book the size of a yellow pages which explains all this) it is very bad practice but done ALL the time!
If you blow between 40 - 49 ALWAYS insist on the blood test!!!!
If I had known this I would never have been banned and so share this information with you in the hopes that those dirty fekkin pigs don't screw any of you!

A few useful facts which you may or may not know:
Legal limit for alcohol is:
Men - 5 units
Women - 3 units
Your body will have up to 1 unit of alcohol naturally occuring in it at any time.
It takes 1 hour for your body to absorb 1 unit of alcohol.
1 pint normal beer (not stella) = 2 units
1 25ml measure of 40% spirit = 1 unit (be aware some pubs server 35ml measures= 1.4 units)
1 125ml (small glass) wine(12%) = 1.5 units
1 175ml (large glass) wine(12%) = 2 units

If I'd have known half of these things 12 months ago I wouldn't be in the pickle I'm in now!
