My home computer is going round in a loop whilst trying to start up.

Turn on.

Windows Product Activation.
This copy of windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on. Do you want to activate windows now?

Click Yes.

Windows Product Activation.
Windows is already activated. Click ok to exit.

Click OK.

Logs off :(



WTF :confused:

The same happens if I click No.

Do I need to enter set up before I get to all this and change something?

Help :p

If nothing has changed then you won't need a new licence

Do you have the option to activate by phone?

There's a couple of suggestions below but I would prefer to talk to microsoft. If there is no fault message. Because if you had a fault message you'd be able to get the right fix for it. And therefore the suggestions below may be inappropriate :(

Yep it is legit XP. Strange that it tells me I need it then tells me I have it then logs me off without any options of tel nos etc. :confused:

I'll try Pepe's links now :p

Does this make sense?

1. Restart in Safe Mode (F8)
2. Go to /System/32/ and delete wgatray.exe & Go to /dllcache/ if it exists and delete the same .exe If not don't worry about the second.
3. Go to Start => Run => regedit
4. Browse HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WI... NT\CURRENT VERSION\WINLOGON\Notify
5. Delete WgaLogon folder
6. Reboot.

In safe mode now but How do I go to /System/32/ ???

Yeah that's it... assuming your OS is installed to C:\Windows (which it may or may not be).

In safe mode you can still run Windows Explorer just like in normal mode to delete & copy files and stuff. That's what they're wanting you to do... to delete a file from <wherever windows is installed>\System32 & \System32\DLLCache (if it's there).

I've dealt with WGA tools before but not this particular issue, so i don't wanna say too much because they are probably quite specific in the way they work... but 2 things...

1) Back up your registry before you delete any keys
2) Back up any files before you delete them

Certainly from a brief look at that fix, what they're advising you to do looks feasible. I don't know enough about the specific issue to say for certain though.

If you get REALLY up the creek PM me. But only if it's brown farahs time.
