Oh dear, Im all a to-do, in a bit of a mither, and generally at my wits end.

Please bear with me, lol

Its my Souncard and attached Breakout box for the Audigy Platinum Pro2 ZS

With having my room dismantled for what seems like eternity, I havent tried doing much on it in the last three weeks or so. It was all fine when I baught it, I couldnt be more happier with it......until now, when it just wont record.

Im not usually scuppered on Audio connectivity affairs, but Im wondering if the breakout box or card has blown up or something. It plays things fine, and with the AD-LiNK and adjoining cable, I can hear the output out the headphone jack on the breakout box - the output is coming out the LineOut1 on the BACK of the PC though - the AD-LINK is whats letting me hear it when I plug my headphones in the Breakout box.

Ive tried every combination of lead and sockets, loads of mixer options for the input, round and round in circles. it just does not want to record anything. Ive unistalled the Card via the software removal of programs and drivers and redone it all, tried the different combo's of connections again and it still doesnt work.

I just dont know where to turn now. The help documents are SHITE, theres no scenario regarding loss of input signal or anything pertaining to the breakout box and any errors. Ive run a 'system diagnosis' that comes with the programs and it says everything is fine, and my device manager reports no error......the box must be workin if the headphones work in it, I just dont understand.

Ive tried recording o the back panels on the PCI card, no joy too, and from different macines so I can eliminate the possibilty that the output isnt working on the mixer.

The funny think is, on my MotherBoard, thre is Nvidia Soundstorm too. This is a good soundcard module o the mainboard, yet I cannot record anything on that either!

Its a mystery, Im totally lost. Im hoping I dont need to return it to the shop  , cos I know the breakout box link must work due to the headphone factor  .

Do you think a total rehash of my computer, ie take it to bits totally and rebuild it, format the hdd etc will sort it out?

Im prepared to do that if thats what it takes cos Im totally lost without being able to record anything!.....no recording my stuff, no records, no nothing. All that bloody money and it packs up after a few months :(

I just dont know what else to try, or where to go from here.

Cheers

I'd do three things first:

1/ Completely un-install ALL software/drivers related to it, and re-install them (or do away with most as they're shite, and get alternative & decent drivers instead)

2/ Remove the card, and install it in another slot (see if that works)

3/ Err check the really obvious one, that you've not muted an input (it happens!)

Is there other drivers than the ones on the CD I got with it?, I thought they would be bastards to get hold of, - do you mean other than Creative? Ive already uninstalled the card and drivers, rebooted, switched off, rebooted and installed the drivers again I have on the install CD.....

Right, I could try and put in a new slot tomorrow......but why could it be only the 'record' thats goosed? .

Aye, its not muted!:D . Triple, quadruple checked that one! lol.

I know you've said it's not muted - BUT have you checked the recording input is correct (recording from the right source ?).

Try making sure the sound card on the motherboard is disabled and not using any resources etc (onboard midi as well) from the bios.

Try recording from a different source (CD, minidisk or others).

Does taking the headphones out make any difference (I know it can mute sound coming out nor sure about sound input ?)

Just make sure the internal connections from the soundcard to the daughter board are OK (Check ribbon cable and others etc.)

Hope you get things sorted !

Just had a fiddle with mine (Ooh er Missus!) to try and get the same result.

I've got the Audigy Platinum EX (Smaller breakout box with original audigy card).

I know it may sound daft (Really !) BUT is the recording volume turned up on the input (mixer on the computer etc.).

This gives the same effect hear on headphones but no recording level.

Any Luck >>> ?

I need to try the bios stuff etc yet, but this is the set up.

I have a desktop studio mixer, decks and mixer, amplifier and speakers, and obviously the breakout box and computer.

I have the decks plugged in the desktop mixer, along with anything else audio source ie keyboards etc, which is then sent via the output 1 to the amplifier and output 2 to the "Line In 3" on the breakout box. I have tried numerous combinations of Line In channel and direct from the decks setup to the breakout box to eliminate error in the folio mixer, still no luck.

In the windows creative mixer, I check all the settings and cylce through them all for each time I rearrange something. The only time I can get it to record is via 'What you hear' - but thats only when playing things already on the PC or via a streaming broadcast, so therefore I gather the record option works, but Im not sure if its using the soundstorm somewhere instead of the creative.

I thought it might be the headphones plugged in too, cos my hifi cuts the speakers off in that manner, but it isnt that.

Im going to tackle it this weekend and try some stuff out and the drivers I got the other day (as above) etc, and maybe even drastically re-do the whole computer cos I cant carry on much longer without a record option.

Thanks for all your input peeps, more suggestions welcome for the weekend jolly afternoon I have up coming :|

One last try !

Go to control panel

double click on sounds (or sounds and multimedia)

click on volume

then options and properties

select recording

make sure all the boxes have a tick in them (for the sources you wish to record from)

click OK

Last thing
Make sure you have a cross in the right box for recording input - analogue mix or ?? input (not sure whether its the same input on the zs pro), but you'll get the picture.

Here's hoping it works !!!

not really the same problem but i was pulling my hair out at the weekend when i went to record something and the option to record from line in had just dissapeared? don't know how it had vanished but it had gone, on some apps there was even a space where it should of been.

anyway what I did, and what might work for you, is to do a system restore back to the time i knew it was working. solved my problem, still not sure how it happened though..

Thanks chaps, got some great responses here :).

Grad, I think you could have hit the nail on the head, I have been installing software lately like Roxio DVD creator, sygate firewalls and overnet etc......however, the restore points I made nearly two months ago have vanished     . I thoght that was the whole point of restore points, to save your own selected time it was working fine, then when it goes bump flit back a few months and restore it.......why have they all gone? It it like a buffer that gets refilled and over ridden with its own mini restore points. .

I have made about three sincve I baught my computer, I did it just before I installed major softwares and when they were all working successfully together I did a few more restore points, but its all gone now, so I may heve to redo the whole windows again. :(

Hi again..... :(

Ive redone the whole PC and I still cant record. I just cant understand it. The breakout box is functioning okay, yet still no recording signal.

The Nvidea soundstorm still doesnt work. What I did was format the Cdrive reinstall home edition then upgrade to the pro disk, I set up the drivers for the Soundstorm and checked the playback....yup, everything fine, I even got a control panel for the soundstorm which Id never seen before.

Then I installed the Audigy 2 zs Plat Pro, seemed okay, played some files good after I had plugged the output jack in the audigy card output hole. However, still no record, and then its knocked out my Soundstorm again so I cant hear anything off the soundstorm. I tried to reinstall the Nvidea driver again to try and reinstigate the defaults etc, but nope.

I have then just unplugged everything, taken the AD Link cables off the breaout box, took the PC to bits, wedged the PCI card in another slot, restarted and hoped it would work - but nope, it still will not record. The AD cable and breakout box are working becuase even without any other sort of audio cables in the devices I can plu my headphones into it and it will play an mp3 on the computer.

I have the Drivers BlueJammer recommended to get yet, and try those, but Im not convinced its a driver problem, all seems okay except recording. It was an expensive card but I thought sack it, Ill record on the soundstorm and use the Audigy for playback, but I cant even do that cos its knocked it out. :ba:

I'd feel a fool trying to send it somewhere to be fixed or replaced. I baught it fro Scan or Microdirect as a seperate item - will they take responsibility do you think or will they fob me off to creative? It may be fine, but for some unknown reason theres just no input signal.
