Ive heard that most maximes nights are mainly trance\scouse house now but ive not been myself for ages so i dont know
Mind you it was the trance stuff that put me off last time

Zones other nights still go ahead OK (Monroes/Tramshed) ..they deffo still play loads of the piano/italian stuff still thank god

this months

The only Zone DJ on this month was on the 2nd (Keith Capstick)
The others were Hypnotic people

the 3rd week of the month on the Zone verses Hypnotic night..there are no Zone DJ's on just hypnotic

i never went back to maximes after this started happeneing a while back

I never though it would get this bad..you should see the emails i get from the Zone website

I've had over 60 emails from unhappy people over 2 months
mainly complaints about the amount of trance
played and the lack of Zone DJ's

God knows whats happening lol

Zone

Alrite peeps,

Im glad this subject has been brought up coz the zone just aint what it used to be  . What there trying to do at the moment is to make the zone nights like wigan pier nights which is driving all the loyal zoneheads away!! (like myself) if you wanna listen to hard house and trance you go to wigan pier, if you wanna listen to old skool and italian you go to the zone.

First they treated Tony G like shite so he had no option but to leave (so theres the carlisle crew gone) then they sacked Dave Fisher and Gary Selex leaving only Keith Capstick as the only zone dj.
So what happends next with only one zone dj????

Bring on the hypnotic dj's!!!!! on our zone nights!!!!!

No disrespect to the hypnotic dj's but it just aint zone what they play.

R.I.P the zone as we knew it.

From one very unhappy zonehead.

Hiya

Kev you are just one of the many unhappy people ive heard from

This only started happening over the last 2 years

Ive even stopped updating the website as i get no news hardly about any zone info as the zone head honchos are not talking to each other and are wanting to go in separate directions

Everythings gone pear shaped......RIP zone by Kev ....this is soo true unfortuantly

Defintly keep all of your complaints coming in ...maybe something will be done

The zone used to be : Andy Pendle, Matt Bell, Andrew Dean, Chris Baker and folk like Welly etc from the Empire 'n that didnt it?. I have 'heady days' about Zone and I never even went!!!!.
I grew up alongside Zone tapes late 92-94 but it all started going too hardhouse and Scottish techno for me in late 94. So things are still going this route then I see.

I can see both sides of the coin here though....The thing is that Italian stuff we all knew and loved is just not being made anymore and the closest thing these days has to be cheesey trance and cheesey hard house. You cant play the same tunes forever on loop.......on loop...on loop....week in week out - a good compromise has to be met.
However, saying that, if the specific night has been billed as 'Back to the Old Skool - Zone 'v' Hypnotic' then old stuff which made the places famous in the first place is what should be played *all* night. Even if it means going way back pre 1991/2.
That F*ing Paul Van Dyk 'v' Lover tune is by no means a 'zone classic' is it! and I too would be very pis*ed off if one minute they cork out XL Ryhthm and the next thing you know its all snare rolls and hoovers for 75% of the night.

Its a real shame that the zone is what it is these days, they are basically pulling any old shite out of the bag to coin in on the 'Old Skool' bandwagon. Its not just the zone though is it?. I got sick of going to so called Angels Revival's "Relive the years '91 and '92" because it was f**ing new stuff most of the night with a few basic piano classics like Asha and Bizzare inc to fob off the real retro heads. Money talks. Dont even get me started on "FUTURE RETRO" WTF!

zone

as alan said the main heads at zone have had a little falling out.
one is seeing the scene change and playing all the said hardhouse and sees that we need old skool and more of it and i think the other wants to keep things as it is.
just different oppinions realy, but no zone dont seem to putting any djs out at the mo,its just a rutt there in.
i was approached by both zone bosses last year after theyd listened to a few of my mixes etc etc and was told i will be booked, the said falling out then happend so i think they do plan to introduce new djs when things are sorted.
i think the main reason is a move from maximes which might not be a bad thing, but where do you take a club like zone? the old venue in blackpool is up for lease????????

zone

I think the way forward is to leave maximes and do a once a month zone night somewhere else but unfortunatly that aint gonna happen in a hurry.

At the moment debbie and andy want the maximes zone nights to be all new choons like whats being played at wigan pier thats why we've got non zone dj's like daz burchall and jamie agar and stu allen on every month to bring in that new crowd. Sirius made a good point about playing italo year in year out and maybe it needs to change, he's right but i think a good blend of italo and new vocal tunes is what it needs(not hardhouse).

With phil at melody house registering the zone name a few years back he has the key to make the changes, he can take the zone name away from debbie/andy and maximes and set up his own night he just needs a venue. I hope he finds somewhere soon before the zone turns completely hardhouse!!!

Yeah, good one kev :).

Thats what I was sort of gettin at. Youre right in that there must be a stack of good house/vocal house to be played and with trance and hardhouse being done to death it could work out. A steady balance needs to be met and a more stricter music policy to whats billed on the flyer needs to be met possibly.
Of course I am biased to the 'Old Zone' like many other people, but these tunes were 'fresh' when the club was in its hey-day and a decent mixture of new and old was introduced later and till '94ish to pull in the regular fanatics. Time unfortunately cant stand still.

Personally I hate all this hardhouse drills and hoovers and stolen/sped up 92'93 chipmunk vocals over somebody bashing a biscuit tin at 150bpm and its not even as good as 'hardcore' used to be - but if thats what the next generation of folk are into (ie 15 16 17 18 year olds) then they have to have thier 'days' too I suppose.
Its sad, but just think, perhaps 8 years down the line there will be an "Old Skool HardHouse Classics" website playing all "your favourite headmangler's from 2002". Scary but feasable.

Some good variation is whats required, or theme nights or sommet so folk know what the deal is. Does good vocal house still exist? It certainly doesnt seem to get much airtime. I baught some of those vocally prog house tunes on Renaisance records and they are awesome, but besides those I dont really know.

Right, Im getting into talking out my arse territory here so Ill leave it. :).

See ya,

sirius.
