The zone used to be : Andy Pendle, Matt Bell, Andrew Dean, Chris Baker and folk like Welly etc from the Empire 'n that didnt it?. I have 'heady days' about Zone and I never even went!!!!. I grew up alongside Zone tapes late 92-94 but it all started going too hardhouse and Scottish techno for me in late 94. So things are still going this route then I see. I can see both sides of the coin here though....The thing is that Italian stuff we all knew and loved is just not being made anymore and the closest thing these days has to be cheesey trance and cheesey hard house. You cant play the same tunes forever on loop.......on loop...on loop....week in week out - a good compromise has to be met. However, saying that, if the specific night has been billed as 'Back to the Old Skool - Zone 'v' Hypnotic' then old stuff which made the places famous in the first place is what should be played *all* night. Even if it means going way back pre 1991/2. That F*ing Paul Van Dyk 'v' Lover tune is by no means a 'zone classic' is it! and I too would be very pis*ed off if one minute they cork out XL Ryhthm and the next thing you know its all snare rolls and hoovers for 75% of the night. Its a real shame that the zone is what it is these days, they are basically pulling any old shite out of the bag to coin in on the 'Old Skool' bandwagon. Its not just the zone though is it?. I got sick of going to so called Angels Revival's "Relive the years '91 and '92" because it was f**ing new stuff most of the night with a few basic piano classics like Asha and Bizzare inc to fob off the real retro heads. Money talks. Dont even get me started on "FUTURE RETRO" WTF! Sirius.
