Hi guys.

I want to create a website, a free one if possible.

I can do a basic design myself, or will put up with whatever the service provides if I need to (if you cant upload your own), not too bothered about a bottom banner or a few popups, but what I need it to do is this:

1) Upload text/documents etc via my FTP program

2) Have multiple pages, maybe three or four for now (with images)

3) Store about 10-20mb of data, where for example I could encode a few Real Media things, linkable to download from.

4) Allow people to download or view (or stream that data if copyright is a problem).

5) If people cant download or stream for somesort of legal reason, some sort of flash support so I can somehow convert video and sounds to flash to stream.

6) be able to cope with a few hundred people per day downloadin/looking at for example 5-10 mb of data (or something)

Most importantly, one thats totally free and pretty reliable.

I really have NO idea how to do this or anything about it, I type in something like 'free website' and its a nightmare minefield and I dont quite 'get' some of the jargon when Im looking at what I need it to do. For example loads say 30mb storage, but I dont think it lets people looking at your site stream over like 215k or something ridiculously small.

Is it even possible? :S

No, I dont believe so. Im on BT Broadband, I signed up about three years ago. I think one of the drawbacks with BT is you dont get webspace, or you didnt used to do.

I dont think I do, is there a way I can find out myself on the net without ringing anywhere?.

My dad has dialup and he got free space when he signed up for that about 7 years ago, but he uses that for business and I dont want to use his account.

think you do mate, retroandy is with them and got free space, although it might have been for his works - cant remember

think BT has merged with yahoo now cos my mate got bt internet and his free webspace was a 50mb yahoo briefcase which is no good for ya

drop fhosts who do this place an email sales@fhosts.com, should get 50mb space for 1 quid per month or something like that

Aye andy your right i do have space with BT but its a business connection. We pay £15 per mth for a business pack that enables web hosting.

Am sure there will some space with a standard home connection though.

youd need a host site yeah but you would be streaming stuff off your pc if you had a host

thats the idea of the host

you could run it off your pc but it would be slow

You could try Geocities. It's free, but there is a limited ammount of data transfer. Piece of piss to use though.
