After 6 months of trying (thanks all, spesh Sirius) to install a wireless broadband pack onto my prehistoric pc, i finally accepted that it just wouldnt work.

Enter Jonno with James Bond rescue techniques in the form of a shiny new pc with lots of ace shit on it.

Now i just installed the bugger, and woo hoo its working exept its no faster than my shitty dial up connection was

Why is this?

(just to fill in on th situation for those unaware, lol, you are on Blue Yonder wireless from your cable TV thingy).

Out of curiosity, on your paperwork from your BlueYonder/Cable regarding the internet usage- what speed are you supposed to be on? I think you get '128' line '256' lines '512' lines and 1MB lines to choose from. My BT is a 512 which is pretty standard, but you may be on a 256 or sommet.

I find that my internet is slower when its still business hours (?) but only a bit.

I may be talking out my arse, but if theres a 'connection speed' configuration on your computer for the 'modem' setup, make sure its now on the appropriate speed and not still stuck on 56k. Im sure some of the more technically astute individuals on here will be help you properly!

See ya

Sirius.

Have you got that Smart FTP yet? You have my details so I can 'watch' what speed you are pulling up data from my machine if that helps.

128 it said, so i clicked on that box.

Maybe as its working mans choice, lol being cable and all it has alot of users thus slower than others, as i know when i am at Jonno's its super fast.

Hey the main thing is i can still now use my phone :)

Dont say sober on my account :) ;) .

Wait until the real technical guys step in, and then Ill help you sort it out later when you get back. If you could read the documentation for BlueYonder or whatever and find what speed you are signed upto it may be handy.

What windows are you running? and more importantly, have you got the 'firewall' on and the security updates to prevent malicious threats to your PC?

Dont panic if you havent or dont know, Ill see ya virtually laterz.

Sirius.
