Made a last minute dash to Global Gathering's 2 day festival down at Stratford-upon-Avon ...... was top notch indeedy!
Started work at 7am that day and didnt finish until 3pm before heading straight down the M1 to arrive for 7ish :| A hectic day indeed but was well worth it in the end ..... Had to queue for about an hour and a half so missed both 2 many djs and James Zabelia, gutted!!! The security was ridiculously crap and i just walked straight past em, getting in without even showing my ticket, mad as! They searched about 1 in every 20 people as well, haha! When in we banged up our tent in 2 minutes flat hehe, before legging it to the main stage to catch the start of Underworlds live set Never seen em live myself, so was indeed a proud moment to be there They were wicked with lots of quality new stuff that i was lovin The crowd was full of peple who didnt have a clue but you've gotta just laugh at em! They only really knew Born Slippy when it finally came on, but the way they built it up was superb .... it went on for about 15 minutes mind hehe, but we'll let em off Then in the need for drugs, i decided to leave all my mates and run round the field askin people if they had owt ..... and on my travels found myself running straight towards james zabelia, lol! So stopped for a chat, but was very star-struck and basically just kissed his ass for about 5 minutes! A very modest and top top guy though ..... reeespect!
That night i also saw deep dish who wasnt my cuppa to be honest, very over-hyped imo although you cant fault their tunes which sounded quality, and their mixing ability was spot on ...... it was just the waiting around 7 mins or so for the next tune to kick in which did my head in a bit ..... Saw Yoda for a bit which was cool, he always does the trick Then onto the Happy Mondays who were simply awful!! but that we expected and added to the atmosphere Not one of em could sing or evrn play their instruments in time, and everyone of em was fucked to pieces, but it was still shit hot Friday finished off with Sasha in the essential selection tent who was fantastic. He was absolutely loving it, jumping around everywhere and proper booming the tent .... every tune this time was fookin ace, and he played mint to the slightly more commecial liking crowd, finishing with a few of his own hits and a few more well know tracks ..... finished with killers - mr brightside which was a cool moment phones: everyone singing along etc ...
then back to the campsite where copious amounts of drugs various were taken in many a different tent lol Loads of bollox chatted, alcohol drank, the usual antics etc and before we knew it, it was 11am and time to head back into the areana lol We decided to get on the vodca shots and hardcore it without any sleep, seemed a good idea at the time but was feeling the effects badly come josh wink's set at 1am :S
First off we went to see Eric Prydz on the main stage who was again on top form Although you may think this guy is on the cheesy side because of his 'call on me' fame, hes actually one very talented guy .... both his tunes and dj-ing ability is top top notch, and really enjoyable, got loads of time for this fella Then onto Hyper in the breaks tent who was ripping it up with his infamous guitar breakdowns fuelled with gorgeous vocals, sweet as Krafty Kuts were mega, enjoyed their set loads Pendulum in the drum'n'bass tent were on top form, banging out all their quality new album stuff along with their classics Then set of the festival for me came from steve lawler who has impressed every time ive seen him .... what a feckin dj phones: Proper acid prog basslines that built and built, loved every minute He finished with bassheads - is anybody out there as well, which baffled me a bit lol but the jam packed bedrock tent seemed to love it big time! With the whole tent singin' along ...... Went of to see Tiefswarz then who were bang on, cant mix that well, for their electro house stuff always does the job nicely, quality producers phones: Back to the breaks tent then for adam freelands set which again was feckin ace A very unique almost rock-dance style but absolute quality Then onto Kosheen Live who blew my head clean off! Always loved their stuff, but they were unbelievable live finishing with my all time favourate song 'all in my head' They also played 3 tracks from their forthcoming album in their set which all sounded superb, well lookin forward to that now Much of the rest of the night was a blur up until Josh wink, who played a blindin' old skool chicago acid house set, just what the doctor ordered Deffo go to see Josh wink anytime you get chance
Pretty happy i can remember all of the above to be honest Made the trip down so i could see as many acts as poss and just crammed all in nicely, proper good event it was, thoroughly recommend it to anyone whos thinking about heading down or up (oooh err ) next year ......
Only downside was that there were far too many chavs for my liking, with it being held just under birmingham (which is proper shit for it like) .... it was well rough in the d'n'b tent especially, with loads of knobheads always eyeing you up and being cunts in general .... it never used to be like this did it?? grrr they really do get on my tits ..... another shit point was that chavs/gangs who seemed to be arriving late on saturday on purpous were offering the sercuity guards cash in tenners or twentys, so that they could in, and shockingly the security guys were taking it offa them! Suppose they working the event as a one off, but even so!! This of course led to a lot of em getting into the campsites where they could enter the 100s/1000s! of tents at will and just take what they pleases as who was going to know if it was their tent they were entering or not?? So dont leave any important shit in your tent or it'll be a gonner, guarenteed!
Still, had a top top w/e! And even got back home in time on sunday to head down the local record shop where i got a shit load of minters for next to knowt, winner!
