WE JUST NEED TO CONVERT YOU EASTY................;) ;) ;)

I am open minded to any sustainable energy source Martin. The thing that worries me though is that fact I believe our energy consumption is going to increase in the future. It's only a matter of time till cars are run electrically as well.
Now we will need nuclear power in the future, theres absolutely no doubt about that. The thing is do we really want to be sticking windmills up everywhere and the like? Why not not build 4 nuclear power stations instead of 3? (I have just made them numbers up) And not have the eyesores on the moors or out at sea.
People are going to have to make some tough choices in the future

I'll bet that if it was feasible and realistic for us all to immediately switch to sustainable energy, we would all be doing it.

It's a massive outlay to equip your home with solar panels and wind turbines, underground pipes warmed by the earth etc and even then they haven't got an infinite lifespan and have their own problems.

One of the best ways to reduce power stations at the moment according to the press is for us all to be switching things off that aren't being used. It makes complete sense to me. Just put enough water in the kettle for what you need rather than filling the thing and having 4kw of power on for a minute or 2 instead of 30-40 seconds. Saving the washing until there's enough to do a full load etc etc.

I'd love it if we could end our dependence on nuclear power, especially as they're now owned and run by EDF (Electricite de France - Belonging to the French state), but we aren't anywhere near there yet - according to what i've read in the papers and watched on tv.

Good points Easty and Jiglo, think there is a lot of work needed, i just don't like the idea of Nuclear power stations, lets be honest, in the UK, we aren't the best at security, tree huggers infiltrating Fast Lane sums up our approach to security, and i believe it is only a matter of time b4 there is another big Nuclear incident, was watching the news the other night and they were talking about Chernobyl, i think it was the EU that are going to put a concrete building around what is left of the old Nuclear base incase it collapses, there is still a 30 mile no-man's land around the facility, but this will only happen when they have enough money, i would hate to have a Nuclear plant near my home for many reasons but mainly because of my kids.............................m :D :D :D

Hard thing to say but there is enough natural energy on this planet to sustain all species, problem is that there is too many of us. Ive travelled quite a bit and some countries like China and India are real eye openers, people everywhere like ants, all using and eating the worlds resources.

Nuclear is a way of trying to solve the problem nobody other than the Chinese have ever discussed, we need to stop breeding!
