I doubt it lol

I'm not interested in whether Whelan shares my view or not.Why should I be? He's only a fucking bloke who's put a few quid in.I ain't going to salute him like these new muppet fans do. When he dies we'll back to square 1 and all these **** rugby fans will disapear (thank fuck) To be honest I really couldn't give a shit about Man United, Liverpool or Everton(who btw are about as well supported as Colchester in Wigan) however to the 3000 that used to go to Springfield Park who probly won't read this but actually know something about Wigan and don't just listen to Jeff Stelling on Sky Sports, read the Wigan Observer or listen to a scouser on messageboard says and have KEPT THE FAITH FOR ALL THESE YEARS. I say this

HA HA HA HA WE FUCKING DID IT. I KNEW WE FUCKING WELL WOULD

So let me get this straight, you'd prefer Wigan the way they were before Whelan took over? :S

Most fans don't share your view mate, but if you'd prefer to be the shitty team (bordering on Conference league football) then I really can't comprehend your thinking.

I saw Wigan play many times in the old 4th division and I couldn't be happier that a former player who loves the town (Whelan) has decided to get fully behind the team and inject his own personal money into it.

Then again you seem to be an angry guy, so your attitude doesn't really surprise me ;)

I share his veiw to be honest. I doesnt bother me one iota if my team are in the prem or not, ill be there come what may. The fact that we have a very bad support at home and suddenly a huge support when we have a halve decent cup run infuriates me, Id rather they all stayed at home and left the proper fans to it. Your football team is your tribe m8 and regardless of wheter they are doing well or not, they are your tribe. Fair enough the money is handy but id rather see 22 blokes scrap it out on a boggy pitch in the pissing rain, getting shit load of abuse, than the sterile atomosphere of most premiership ground, Thats football:)

I do agree with you both in some ways and I think I might have been a little harsh, it's the true fans that really care about the club :$

I can't understand the attitude towards Whelan though (like he's an outsider) after all he's done for the club and with his history.

He's a great man in my eyes

Fair do's to the guy for fronting the cash and to be honest id love it if someone came down to Colchester and did the same.BUT id only be comfortable with it if it was done out of passion rather than investment.Passion seems to be the case with this guy.Wonder if he'll do a Delia on ya later in the season, i can imagine it now - ''Eee Up,reet lets be avin you'

p.s. is it true that when they built the JJB it was they first stadium to have purpose built posts outside for everyone to tie their whippets to?? Clever idea.
Saw this on a the gates of the JJB

An interesting perspective WAFC!

The daftest fans in the land eh?!. Hmm, quietest possibly!.

Unfortunately we won't be playing you next season, as we're still stuck in the Championship!.

Enjoy the ride mate.

No I'm saying basically what AB45 said and now I think it's time for you to come out the closet as a fan of bugry league. It's also amazing how many people I've come accross from Wigan in the last few days who went when we were in the old 4th Division (btw was that in the early 80's pal or early 90's as if it was the 90's it was 3rd by then but i'll let you off. I have to say we must have had 62,000 on each week by the sounds of how many seemed to go. Something really doesn't add up.
I don't recall football being a singing contest either Phil. I also don't recall you making to much noise at Elland Road earlier in the season or in the quarter final of the fa cup in 86/87. Never mind though eh.

Actually I started watching latics in the 70's as a little lad, my dad use to to take me to most of the home games :p

In the late 80's though I became a bigger fan of rugby, so your right......i'm an old rugby fan

Good for you though mate for having a totally blinkered view towards new fans, because you obviously don't want other fans to start supporting Wigan to build up a bigger fan base, because you feel they belong to you (you own them). Drain Whelans money dry then kick him out because you're a 'true fan' with the emblem proudly tattoed on your arm ;)

I'm not like you - in that I couldn't give a toss where somebody's from, to me it's more important where they're at and if they're going to all the home games and most of the away games, then in my eyes they're a true fan  :)

While still on the Wigan subject thought i`d post this post which is a quote off a football forum:

"I've posted on a thread elsewhere that I'm pleased for Wigan, they got promoted deservedly. However, watching the TV coverage there was one thing that I did find disgraceful.

The TV cameras were in the dressing room for the celebrations and in walked Chairman Dave Whelan. The players immediately started chanting " Bonus, Bonus, Bonus" and then "Get your chequbook out" at the Chairman.

Is this REALLY all they care about? Do the fans' joy REALLY mean NOTHING to them?

These players' attitudes made me puke far more than Wigan's poor attendances. If anyone ever asks me for evidence of how low footballers have sunk in their lack of morals I shall refer them to this video.

To the fans this promotion means everything, to the players it just means more bling.

Pathetic."

Probably all done in good humour as they`d just gone up.

Soft spot

Always have a soft spot for Wigan. Remember when Leeds drew them in the FA cup in 87-88. They were in some delapidated shit tip of a ground then (as all clubs were).

I think they gave us 28 tickets for the leg.

So a few of us went over at 4 in the morning, climbed over this wall strewn with glass fragments glued to the top of it and get into the ground.

Unsure of the "leeds end" we just randomly parked ourselves down anywhere.
It was fecking freezing.

At 8 in the morning we realise we can't get back out now(as we could hear the police arriving outside). We have no water, food or cigs left. Our hangovers are becoming increasingly severe and we are tired and cold.

We are saved though by a fecking idiot cop and his dog who decides to do a sweep of the fecking stadium with his dog wtf  :axe: at 9 in the morning.

We try to lay low but the red rose dog smelt the yorkshire beef. So we are trying to break out of the ground, absolutely  climbing over the glass strewn wall with a dog biting our ankles, my mate shouting to the copper saying .."we've been here since we fell asleep at the last boring fecking game"
and i could hear the copper on his radio saying........" there's some Leeds fans breaking out of the ground............. :cops:

You're a Wigan Rugby Fan

How in fucks name can you have the cheek to wish Latics good luck. You never helped us out once when we were completely in the shit and everyone knows Mowiss was desperate for us to be moved to Skem in the early 90's. And you'd like me to forgive and say "Oh yes I welcome you oh peanut huggers, I welcome you with open arms." You gave it away badly with that "Wigans a rugby town" statement that lazy osa contributors, observer and sky sports journalists use.. Maybe 3 streets in Ince and the Flamingo in Scholes is all rugby but the rest of the town is football not latics agreed but football and couldn't give a flying fuck about Maurices little Pie Army(yes I've seen the flag, you classy bastards). The days of singing "Simply the best" after yet another tedious 94-0 victory over another tin pot Northern mining town at Wembley are long gone. Maybe you could resurrect Green Vigo complete with bottle of cider or maybe Joe "The Rapist " Lydon and have a scrumdown on the epicentre of Rugby League which is Tescos Car Park. I also hear you're for sale now. Thats the cherry on the cake for me. At last you'll have to get out of OUR GROUND. Maybe you could share with Bolton.

LOL

By using the same logic that you've used to say that i'm a rugby fan proves that I could never have been a rugby fan to begin with ;)

I'd been a Latics supporter for 10 years before becoming (mainly) a rugby league supporter so it proves that i'm a proper Latics fan :p

A supporter is a supporter this means that they pay heard earned cash to go and watch there team week in week out regardless of what division, which isnt cheap anymore esp in the Prem.

So your telling me you`d rather see about 4,000 at Wigan each week then??

Get real.

these supporters havent supported them though in what ever divison they have been in week in and out, wigan have averaged 10 thousand this year and thats mainly due to massive away followings of teams some teams have brought over 7000.

so when wigan sell out agaisnt the big teams like man united where have all these fans come from?
and what about people who have been all the life but cant afford season tickets who want tickets for games like man utd away NO CHANCE

it used to cost £4 or £6 and 1.50 for a kid to get into springfield park (hardly going to break the bank) when they where getting around 2000 or less every week .ive been to more games than most of wigans fans,i went about 7-8 times a season from 1990 -2000 and i support bolton- wigans biggest rivals

and they nearly went bust, so these fans who support them now didnt care about them then and would have happily have seen them lose there town football club.

will these new wigan fans be going the year after if they go straight back down?
doubt it

funny how wigan rugby league now struggling with attendances compared to old crowds because there not the best team in rugby anymore

you either support a team through thick & thin or you dont support a team in my view.

im not just having a go at wigan most teams are the same.

Aye yer right, every team is full of glory hunters, but without those glory hunters there would be less money to spend at any club. Most people don't want to pay good money to see losers and why should they if they don't want to? Would you pay to watch your favourite artist or DJ if they started playing shit music.....I doubt it? It's the same in every sport though :p

I was supporting Latics though as a kid from the late 70's to late 80's when we were getting around 2000 - 3500 at Springfield Park, but I don't expect a medal for it (unlike some people ;) ). I went with my dad out of love for my local team at that time (and I had a choice) and I would have welcomed with open arms anybody that wanted to join in the support.

So i've watched them most weeks - before the glory days ;)

It says more about you as a person, than a fan - taking a blinkered attitude to towards new fans :)

At the end of the day vocal/fan support can be worth points to any team in any division in getting behind them.

Lets be honest if u were players in the team u wouldnt want to play infront of a half empty stadium making no noise.

So i`d be happy if a few of the arm chair or rugby lot were in there with u otherwise it might be just a few of u huddled in`t corner eatin pies with the cries of shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhsh ecohing round the ground ;)

One thing i found a bit mad was how they only had 19,000 fans there when a win would mean promotion i think the ground holds about 25,000.

Barmy.

Theres only 256 people live in Wigan and 255 of them are on the council waitin list for a transfer and the remaining one is a talking pie. :D

I remember goin to wigan away with stockport county (dont ask, must av been bored) bout 10 years ago, only remember it really cos the away end had no roof and the weather was fakin terenchal rain.

I'm glad their up tho, any local(ish) derby is more interestin than playin Norwich or somat, an after last years heartbreak, i rec they deserved it.
