 ok after selling most of my tunes 4 years (Dick head)
i kept some of my favourites.
After digging them out this afternoon i was sifting through them
and to my suprise i found an accetate produced by DJ Demand
( if you dont know who dj demand is he's one of stu allens mates,
and he used to run kinetic with another bloke)
he's from st helens and the misses knows him really well they all used to go clubbin together in the early 90's,
when he first started out producing tunes they where all hardcore and some good stuff (dark side, there can be only one)
it wasnt bad stuff at all.
At this stage he was producin in his bedroom with a pc, keyboard nothin dead spesh all for fun and the love of the music. not makin alot of money.
Then a couple of years and a few 12"s later he makes this tune the one iv got the accetate for.(done in a big plush studio)
Anyway gettin back to the point i got this record out (iv never taken much notice of it and never played it ) i looked at the label
DJ DEMAND (forever young)
i thought na cant be, so i stuck it on,
"and fuck my old boot" it was that drivel and tosh that they play in the shiteist clubs in the country, and all the 12 year old kids love.
"dissapointed was i"
And it made me realise that it was this sort of mentality that spoiled the dance musik that was in the early 90s.
People have seen how much money they can make and jumped on the band wagon" i can do this its easy" and thats why we get all the shite now cause all the tunes arnt made from the heart for the enjoyment of themselves and there mates.
its all for cash.
Thankyou

Alec has left the building:crazy::wave:

that dump called stoke
sorry but!

i was bought into the scene through that style of music, why do ppl always say stuff like this?

it was that drivel and tosh that they play in the shiteist clubs in the country, and all the 12 year old kids love.

am i 12 yrs old???? no im 21 (12 backwards!)

some ppl do like that music and dont like ppl slatin it, how would u like it if someone started rubbin stuff in ur face like "oh old skool is just pop music" you wouldnt like it v much would u???
( i admit i dont listen to old skool, iv heard a few thats all, prefer hardcore old skool)

i know this is an old skool board but plz dont go slatin other styles of music, most of the ppl on here do have a wide and varied taste, belive it or not the whole world dont rotate around old skool...

im sorry if i sound sharp i realy dont mean to, it just gets my rag when ppl slate styles of music, demand has done so much for the scene, if hes that bad y would he hold an old skool arena?

i relay hate myself for soundin sharp but it has to be said, im sorry if i have caused anyone any kind of offence

hehe! sounds like i touched a nerve
i wasnt gettin at demand he's made some good stuff,
what i was sayin is that greedy talentles people jumped on the coach to ravesville and started makin tunes that dont do anything for me personnal.
Rave was an underground scene that started before 88 and was kept that way till around 94 thats when tossers really started tryin to make money out of it, (the less under ground the more money).
thinkin about it all you where brought up on commercial dance at the tender age of 11 so you know no different which is understandabul. old skool isnt just the music it was about a complet culture and when you feel part of a culture and someone comes along and spoils it for money and money alone it take the piss.
ohh i do like other types of music which i listen to more than old skool.

that dump called stoke
yeah but what im tryin to ay is

so is h hardcore and techno, but ppl still have to give em shit cause they listen to it,

i dont know why ppl cant stop dissin other styels ( sorry if my spellins worse than ever bit to drink and had me nails done again :D)

its all part of the scene no matter what style it is, some ppl will say it all evolved from one, others will say its a unike style that was made up out of thin air ( ill go for the brnchin off biut)

i first listened to hardcore way back in 95 i was 15 yrs old i borrowed a tape of my best mates bro, wanna know what the tape was???? ill tell yah stu allen new yrs eve 95/96 i loved it but wouldnt listen to any other dj's untill two yr later when i met my bf, i love him because he introduced me to somthin that realy opened my eyes ( i know it sounds soft but its true!)

i could never repay him for what iv seen&done in the past 5 yrs

where was i??? (sorry got a bit lost then)

oh yeah, as i was sayin, slaggin off other styles is way wrong yeah i know i do it myself with d&b and garage (and most chart/dance stuff)

but i never say it to someone who might have an interest in it, hardcore was just the same u know before ppl started to jump on the band wagon, let me put it another way, why would someone open a club and go skint for it if he didnt love what he was doin?

ill give u an example im sure loads more on here could come up with better ones like,

andy bowler (a.k.a vortex) owns his own club, he was part owner or full owner(?) back in the days of a little welsh club named steam (techno night) he lost money, but he didnt give up he came father up north with a new name North (another underground night) (techno/trance)

i have had many heart breakin conversations with him after certain nights, his profit went waaaaaaaay down into the red ( pulls out little chart thing with arrow slumpin) he was loosin everythin he had for one big night, aug 3rd! he brought in loads of big name techno dj's ( i myself wasnt there i went skelter cause id never been before) and he rammned the place couldnt breath cause it was that crammped, and u know what? he still didnt make enough to call a profit. i know he was just one person, and i know loads of them are rippin off the scene by bringin out "cheesey" music, but old skool has had its fair share i can bet through the yrs?

u cant class music by what has happened to it, not every apple in the barrel is gonna be bad, there are ppl out there who are doing it for the love of the scene and not the money, but then again (as we know) u get the minority who will do it just for the money, dj's r the biggest worry, espsh when they wanna be run around in a limo!

if i could be a dj, id just ask for me bus fair and a few free drinks thats all, i wouldnt put a fee forward and i would never ask for a limo!

how many more could honestly say they would refuse the cash? and do a gig for free, not many now is there? they all want 300+ a set!

they r the ones rippin the scene off (and a few promoters) no one else they r the opnes who dont lve the scene as much as they say, dont go blaming it on what ppl listen to.....

ok over and out my fingers r tired and so am i, yes u did touch a nerve cause i think ppl should try and help the scene and not slag certain parts of it off......

still friends???

dj demand

aka paul, he is a very sound bloke
i know his girlfriend

and he is a bloody hardworker i'll tell you

he's had connections at the donny warehouse,
ressidency and joint owner at kinetic

then moving onto compulsion @bowlers
(plus his residency their)
(Bowlers RIP)

now on a project regarding the MEN arena in may

Many DJ's have produced cheesey shit that sells
to make an honest living while they concentrate
on making music they love

check out pianoman's last comments in a thread a few weeks back

look at nipper, he is now along with ian bland producing under the guise of beat-renegades producing hard house/trance

but he uses other names to produce his beloved hiphop stylee

look at
stu allan and Clock (the buggers got a massive house, with a massive wall of gold and platinum discs from his chart successe

force and styles producing happy hardcore
there now doing many a project, albeit seperately

Whats wrong with making money, to enable you to do what you love
we all do it,

its a matter of ethics

Final comments
happy hardcore is cheesey shite
jungle is king, oldskool is queen,
speed garage is the doormat, (to wipe shit of yer boots)
and judge jules is a tosser who wears dodgy shirts

Back oop north!
www.
I know Demand off another board I used to go on & he does seem like a really sound guy imo - & whoever said it (can't be bothered goin back thru all the posts) was right - at the end of the day, would you turn down the money ??? NO !!!

People like Steps & S Club , Vengaboys etc churn out the kind of shit that makes all our skins crawl but at the end of the day, if there's a market for it then why not earn some cash out of it......? It's gotta beat working for a living !!! ;)

In terms of diff styles of dance music, I do love OS, I also really like D&B & bits of trance & techno (but not to the same degree) & occasionally even some hard house BUT I still loved the hardcore era !!!

House is where you live
Garage is where you park you car
but HARDCORE IS FOREVER!!!!!!!

he he he !!!

Bring on those helium vocal, 1million bpm tracks any day of the week !!!

but in answer to the the original post, u get sell outs and people only in it for the money in every type of music, form indie to rock to trance, house, etc etc etc etc etc etc blah de blah de blah.

just let them get on with it, and let the rabble listen to it, while consoling urself with the fact that ur more enlightened and infinitely more cooler than them all.

I know exactly where your coming from Alec mate. Its not that you are digging at demand or even people seeing an opportunity for themselves, it is more at the blatant rip-off off what was Rave.

I started going out to Bowlers in 93 and it was still very much underground until approx late 95 ish when I started hearing people like Clock and Housetraffic in the charts and kids were listening. i WAS THINKING 'wHAT THE hells happening here'.

Although I understand that money is important and sometimes you have to take the opportunity to better yourself financially, I have FAR MORE respect for the DJ's who have stayed true to the scene and its traditions by contiuing to do what they did 10,12 years back. I always feel a little disheartened by the fact that it is more mainstrem nowadays and look back on years ago with a hell of alot of emotion if ya know what I mean.

All I can say though is, THANKGOD for GT cos I havent found anywhere which recreates not just the tunes but the loved up easy going friendly atmosphere of Bowlers and that era in General and I hope to God that it stays that way and doesnt turn into a house full of attitude.

Old Skool Hardcore and Classic Piano is the best fekkin music EVER.:) :) :) :)
