what a fuckin belter - park and pickering doing the second night of the hac reunions at the arches... shaun ryder and n-joi in th area too.

12 of us went up mob-handed from west yorks, having been to the sankeys do, we couldn't miss it. we were thinking that the build-up was a bit low key, we hadn't seen anything in press or online right up to the day before - there was a couple of posters in glasgow, with shaun ryder in top billing, so we were expecting the worst...

.. but by the time we turned the corner about 10.30 to the arches, we realised we needn't have worried - they were queueing round the block 4 deep, hacienda style - what a buzz! we met some boys up from manchester who'd heard about sankeys and couldn't miss this one.

inside the arches (what a top fuckin venue, by the way) was a fantastic atmosphere.. great warm up music, everyone grinning, jigging about, expecting.

details are sketchy now... it was like getting mugged by tunes. these are all the details i can recall at present:

• 12pm park and pickering come on the main stage and the place blew up. • 3rd song in: 'everything bamboo' by lenny d and tommy musto, and we knew they meant business!
• the atmosphere was like a gig, every fucker soaking with sweat as they did the full monty.
• cute scottish birds everywhere, loving it.
• at one point in the middle of the night, my mate sean looked over and shouts 'WE'RE JACKING' - pisser!
• never saw shaun ryder, couldn't swap these sounds for a kinks or specials tune (no disrespect to shaun ryder, like - but it was good to know he was there). come to think of it, never saw n-joi either.
• one downside - shovel on percussion - WTF? banging them tin cans over every mix, he was mixed too loud and it started to do me head in.
• last song, 'tears' - and there was...

all in all, a shit hot night.

yeah! - i noticed you getting some grief for that over on that 808 state/guy called gerald dry bar thread.

i couldn't agree more - what's the fucking point - if we want to listen to people grunting and going out of time/key we'd watch some 'rock music show' wouldn't we?

by the way, more details came back to me this morning:

• fuckin kid n play 'too hype' took the place apart...
• and there was this 6ft glasweigan ray parlour ripped off his tits who managed to individually knock into everyone in the place. individually.
• also, in homage to the 80s theme of the night (and i think this is why i can remember fuck all) people were mainly doing 80s dr*gs - as well as the pills n powders, i saw 'mushies' 'poppers' and 'speed' being 'done'!
