When I moved to Birmingham last summer I was absolutely pining like mad for home for about the first month  Suppose apart from missing people it was a bit of a 'have i done the right thing' aspect to it, but you never know til you try hey? ;) Bit frustrating to start with too not really knowing my way around etc.. like when i needed to tax my car in the first few days i was there it was like "ok... i need a cashpoint...where the hell is one?!!" then once i'd found one it was "right, now where the frig is the post office?! FFS!!" :@ it can be a big culture shock though, but thats to be expected. Despite my pikey / wherever I lay my hat / littlest hobo tendencies (:P ), and despite knowing people over there and going out over there most weekends anyway its still a big difference. Bit mind boggling for me to go from little villages to living in a massive city too, but then in a way that was one of the points of doing it ... get away from the 'same old, same old' .. a new start :) After a while I started to enjoy living there. At the minute I'm pretty indifferent. But at least I know if I can up-sticks and move to a different part of the country on my own, once, then I can do it again. I'd been saying for ages and ages I was gonna do it , and normally when I say im gonna do something.. I do . ;) The homesickness thing... will never stop for me... Ive got too much back there... any new circumstances are going to struggle to compare to family and lifelong friends who've been through everything with you. Being away from things can make you appreciate them all the more and give you a chance to miss them . As long as I get to go back about once a month then that keeps me ticking over.
