Have there been any earth tremors in Widnes?

I've been working on a new build Tesco store in Widnes this week and the store has shook a few times At first I thought it was a hydraulic or electric problem with the scissor lift I was using, but it carried on, and one time mate who was stood on the floor shouted up ''Can you feel that, the building is shaking?''

The store is built on stilts, well it's built on steelwork above a carpark and the upper floor is built on around 3 or 4 inches of concrete and I don't think i've ever noticed building shakes on any other job i've worked on here.

I doubt we've any structural engineers here, but this building might make a name for itself in the future

Widnes is a strange place, full of chemical works. Much like Ellesmere Port where I live. I dont know if the earth shook in Widnes this week, but it does shake here from time to time when they have chemical blow outs at some of the factories. One such time windows went though here. That was a really bad one, but i can remember a few where the earth has shook.

I remember a few good nights in Club 4 in Widnes back in the early 90's and the earth defo shook. But that was down to a tottaly different type of chemical blow out!!!

Yeh i may have made that sound more dramatic than it was mate.

Back in 89 or 90 the Shell refinary blew its top, the earth shook and some windows cracked and fell in on some buildings around the town. The fall out from it damaged hundreds of cars paintwork downwind though, so not a great day for the town.

I've worked on there in the early 90's, but these days everybody's trying to get on the refinery and once on, they don't want to leave

I didn't know about the explosion though
